If you actually think about it though does it really? It allows the pens to add more depth (which they really didn't have and cap space. You have more all rounded team and not just top 6 heavy. It also gets rid of bad/unnecessary contracts with short to long term deals. Yes the dcore is a little weak on the top 4 LHD spot but there really wasn't a good option in my opinion on the left side. trade at deadline for one or the offseason

Yes they are really brutal for the pens. You trade a 2nd pair D and 3 line winger for an extra forward and 3rd pair RHD that you hope to take over your 2nd pair RHD when Schultz becomes a FA. You then trade our best goalie prospect and an elite winger for what is going to be a late 1st and a bust. That’s dumb asset management. Then you give up a 3rd to get rid of Jack Johnson who doesn’t have that high of a cap hit, it’s the length of the contract that is the problem. Then you trade Hornqvist for a cap dump in Martin, what’s probably a bust in Dal Colle, and the wrong Aho. Then you pay a first rounder to get rid of two guys that have worked well here and have value. Why not just trade Crosby for a 7th rounder for cap space? Lol

Maata is a overpaid and injury prone guy that his name is all over rumors and by clearing up that space. This years playoffs showed pens fan that they need to retool and get more depth.

1.) he isn’t overpaid. A top 4 d is making anywhere from 5.5 million and up. He makes 4.083 million.
2.) I’d hardly call him injury prone. He has had 3 seasons where he played 60 or less games. 1 was due to cancer, 1 was due to a cheap shot late hit by Minnesota that was a freak accident when he went shoulder first into the boards when a wild player opened the bench door. And 1 was this past year when he got cheap shotted into the boards by a flyer. It’s not like Beau Bennett where the guy would get injured doing things like celebrating a goal, or sitting down (who btw we got a 3rd round pick for).

4 Million is top 4 (2nd pairing) is generally what they make.

Mehhh not in free agency anymore. The only ones making that are guys coming to the end of those contracts. Most teams now have at least one of their 2nd pair D making more than Maatta.

I mean as a RFA. Larsson, Pesce, Dumoulin are a few examples of those contracts. In FA everything costs a million more than it should be.

Hey, CBJ do have a 7th round pick this year, might even throw in our 3rd too and skip the draft
