TBH he might get sent down to Toledo. Grand Rapids Defense will have Lindstrom, Saarijarvi, Sulak (RFA), Hicketts (RFA), Lashoff, MacIsaac (He's too good for juniors), and Oliwer Kaski (front runners to sign with us).

while I'm sure Jared McIsaac is too good for the QMJHL, he kinda can't play for Grand Rapids, because of the magic that is the CHL-NHL transfer agreement.

Yup you're right he'll be 19 with a March birthday and completed 3 seasons in the juniors (thought he was older for some reason). So he can't play for GR until much later in the season.

Sure, Mcillrath is an iffy NHLer at best. (as his contract indicates). But the Wings must feel he is a positive guy to have with Grand Rapids. It's partly that off ice stuff we don't about know that helped get him a high minor league salary.
Leafs did the same thing with Justin Holl this year . $ 675,000 a year for two years whether he played in the NHL or AHL. Doesn't hurt the cap if demoted. Many teams wouldn't pick up on waivers due to his high minor league contract. Holl took the deal because it was first and maybe last shot at some good money whether he was NHLer or AHLer.

Hicketts didn't graduate to the NHL?

Sorta. He gets called up when one of the shut down guys is injured for a long period of time. He played a lot at the beginning of the season when the Wings had 4 dmen out with injuries.
