how highly ranked is evans on the prospect charts? I thought he was a B prospect?

Brodie is your top pairing dman that goes with Weber. Shaw does not get Brodie straight up - Brodie is a top 4 dman that can play top pair minutes....

& Shaw is a top line winger. Played with Toews on the 1st line in Chicago played with Domi on the 1st line in Mtl. Evans is a B prospect

Shaw ranks 90th in Points Per Game for wingers in the past three seasons. That puts him solidly in second line winger territory. It is much easier to find players like Shaw than it is to find players like Brodie. Brodie is 36th among defenseman in time on ice, and 49th in Points Per Game for defensemen. Both numbers are solidly in top 2 defensemen territory. A straight up trade overvalues Shaw.

Brodie has 1 year left on his contract. Unless there is an extension in place, MTL isn't making that deal

i think that acquiring a player like Hayes would signal an intent to push for a Cup over the next three, or four, seasons. With that in mind, I have the following thoughts:

Hayes may cost you more than $6,100,000 AAV; I think $6,500,000 would be reasonable, given his career stats, and where he is at in his career. However, the UFA market has a tendency to result in over-payments.

Tkachuck is coming off his ELC, the qualifying offer should be determined by whether, or not, the Flames intend to take a serious run at a cup in the next couple of years. Cap space would be available for UFA's and trade deadline additions, if he could be bridged over the next two seasons at a lower salary. After that contract he will have arbitration rights, but if he continues to be what we all think he will be, the Flames can feel good about avoiding arbitration and making Tkachuk a very rich young man with a full 8-year term on his contract.

I don't see either Montreal or NRY agreeing to the terms you propose, and I suspect Florida wouldn't either. Brodie is a very good player, but he is not worth Shaw, Evans, and a 2nd round pick. The Rangers may be enjoying an embarrassment of riches when it comes to their young goaltenders, and they know that. Jankowski is a very nice asset, but I seriously doubt the Rangers agree to swap the draft picks unless they are moving up in the order. Most teams in the NHL will recognize that the Rangers may have two young Russians who look like shoe-ins for future NHL stardom, and Gorton will use this as leverage in any trade negotiation. I also doubt the Flames will get two picks in exchange for Frolik, but that 3rd round pick may be reasonable.

You may be underestimating what the Flames could get in return for Stone, particularly if they retain salary.

So, I suggest:

1. Offer Tkachuk 2 x $2,500,000, with the intent of extending the contract to 8 x $7,750,000 - $8,250,000 before July 1, 2022.
2. Offer Hayes 6 x $6,500,000. Pay a bit more, if doing so buys a contract without trade protection.
3. If you are going to trade Brodie, perhaps target a team like the Panthers. They may be interested in him if they think he will extend his contract. You might get a lesser player than Shaw, but I doubt you'd get him anyway. Florida may offer a better prospect or draft pick than what Montreal will give you.
4. Perhaps hang onto Jankowski, in the future you may really regret trading him away.
5. Notwithstanding my 4th point, if you really want Georgiev, be prepared to send Jankowski +.

Very good point. Maybe the pick will have to be conditional

Fair points here. I tried to overvalue some contract extensions here to make it realistic, so Im sure signing Hayes on 6.5 per is feasible.

I think Janko + Gillies for Georgiev and like a 5th would be feasible? Can also add in Czar to be honest. Mtl has a real need for puck moving dman, i really think Brodie is a good fit there. Panthers cant take on too much cap as they try to get bob and bread. Frolik seems undervalued by everyone except for the real GMs. He's a type of player that teams need to win, he'll get a 3rd and a 5th or 6th maybe. at least. Janko is not needed for the forseeable future if the team gets Hayes. All the centre spots will be filled

Great. Lots of players do. A lot of the players above him do as well. So do players below him. He is not a first line scorer, or even a borderline first line scorer, and if intangibles result in more success, awesome. Brodie brings things as well.

Even with a Brodie extension, I think that's a bit heavy of a price for MTL to pay this summer.

Shaw plus a conditional 2020 3rd rounder for Brodie straight up sounds about right.
