Wings Offseason

Created by: HockeyNut82
Team: 2019-20 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: May 10, 2019
Published: May 10, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bring in a couple of big money contracts for picks, use picks to trade for goalie of the future, swap young F for young D.

Between Kronner, Marleau, Callahan, Big E, they'll have close to 20M coming off the cap for the following season as well.

Point of this overall, DET can use their cap space to gain picks and prospects and still have a ton of cap room after the season, they'll need it to sign Mantha / AA / Bert long term.

Don't kill me on the exact picks in the trade,

I like the idea of taking on bad contracts, but I don't think the Toronto deal is realistic. Toronto will not give up a top prospect to move the Marleau contract (not trade clause?). Same goes with Tampa Bay, they won't package a first with Callahan just to move him (NTC?). I think Detroit could ask for a 2nd and maybe the following years 3rd/4th. In terms of Toronto the deal would most likely involve a mid level d prospect (kind of like Bowey from Washington).

Picks might be a little high, I agree.

I also think that WSH won’t part with Samsonov, as Holtby will be a FA about the time he’s ready. Holtby is 29 with 2 years left on his deal.

I agree with the premise. It seems Callahan and a pick is evveryones guess and I agree. Toronto isn't making that deal and I cant see Washington moving sam for so little. A young goalie prospect like him you develop and he takes over for holtby in 3 years or you move him then.

Marleau uses his full NMC and vetoes the trade as he is 40 and not going to play for a non-Contender having settled in Toronto with a wife and 4 kids.
