Why does everyone think that the Oilers need more defense, we have 15 already and are trying to get rid of 4 or 5 of them............ WE NEED WINGERS IN EXCHANGE FOR DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I believe a deal for Shattenkirk can be made, it won't be with St Louis. They would have no interest in bringing him back.

Georgiev will be traded eventually. But I think it will be at next years Trade Deadline. Allows him more time to beef up his trade stock, while letting Shestyorkin season a bit in Hartford.

As much as i would love to have Hughes, that is way too much headed to Vancouver. One of Andersson or Howden is fine, but not both. And even if Hughes ends up being a little better, I am personally excited for Miller to eventually come up. He is practically untouchable to me.

Oh, they definitely need a 2nd pair RHD. They don't have anyone to that slot, unless they just use Bouchard way too soon like they tend to do with their prospects...

Do you have any ideas of teams that might be good trade partners for a deal for Shatty?

I pretty much constructed the move as Andersson, Miller, 1st and 2nd for Hughes (gotta overpay a little since VAN is so high on him), and then Howden as a sweetener to get rid of Smith in exchange to Schaller. I agree it's an overpayment, but I'd be surprised if they move him for any less than that.

And yes, I agree with you on Georgiev. He could be dealt on trade deadline.

I personally think Tampa and Toronto make the most sense. As long as you retain 50% of his salary. They both need Defenseman (Right handed I think, too). They both need players dumped off their Rosters (Marleau and Callahan) that the Rangers can absorb. And despite his warts on Defense, I think his pick moving ability would flourish on those high powered Offenses.

Fans from those teams have been opposed to it, but I don't know why. At $3.325M, you could do much worse.

Anaheim needs D, too. But not a team in contention.

Well TOR can be counted out as I don't see Marleau waiving his NMC or NHL allowing another Orpik-move to be made. But TB is an interesting choice, as well as Ducks. Just wondering can TB afford him even at $3,325,000, since they need pretty much every penny they can muster.

I also thought about LA. Shatty could work there since they don't really have any true NHL level RHD behind Doughty in the team, except LaDue.

They use Larsson as the first pair D, therefore there's an open slot on the 2nd pair.

If it was some other team, then yes, Larsson is a 2nd pair D. But EDM is a different case.

I see. Your username gave me a different idea lol. But if you're EDM local I guess you know better.

They need big changes. We'll see if Holland can bring something different to the team.

Honestly, Dallas would be a perfect landing spot for Shattenkirk. He's a top-4 RD who's play style would pair really well with Heiskanen. Also can't overlook the fact that he's only got 2 years remaining on his contract, meaning that he's a FA the same offseason as the expansion draft. Because of this Dallas would not have his rights, meaning they can still protect their big-3 on defense (Lindell, Klingberg, Heiskanen). If the Stars are active on the trade market this offseason, Shattenkirk should be one of their top targets.

Offensively Shatty would be great for Stars. But I'm just worried about the physical presence in Stars defense. We get another offensive d-man in the team and Lindell has to continue playing 30 mins a night since he's virtually our only defensive D. I'd like to get a D to the team that can kill penalties and push people of the goal. Klingberg, Heiskanen or Shatty aren't exactly that. For DAL his term is great though.
