The Blackhawks should have plenty of forward depth options to choose from come training camp.

They added to that list on Saturday when Swedish forward Anton Wedin chose the Blackhawks over two other finalists, his agent confirmed on Saturday night. Wedin will sign a one-year entry-level contract with the Blackhawks.

“Anton was faced with a very difficult decision,” Wedin’s agent Michael Deutsch wrote in a text. “He had multiple offers, all of which were excellent opportunities. Ultimately, he felt that the Blackhawks were a good fit for his style of play and felt comfortable knowing that the coach already knew him from his time in Sweden.”

Wedin drew heavy interest this spring from NHL teams after having a breakout season in the SHL. Wedin, who turned 26 in March, had played much of his career in Sweden’s second division, Allsvenskan, and got the chance to play in the top division this past season after helping Timra IK to promotion. He had a career-best 14 goals and 13 assists in 32 games in the SHL this season. He was 12th in the league with 0.87 points per game. He was also third among league forwards with an average ice time of 19:10.
