Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The reality is that to retain Marner, Kapanen and Johnsson we must clear cap space. That means that Kadri and Zaitsev have to go. Contracts with the 3 RFAs have to be bridged and staggered so that with Marleau’s retirement next year they can be extended for term. With Z and Gardiner gone we need to trade for a younger RDman and start the promotion of Marlies with Rosen and Sandin the most advanced. Edmonton is a likely destination for Brown and Sparks and we would try to get Benning in return. Hainsey would be resigned for one year at 2m. With Kadri gone we would try to get Glendening as the 3rd line center and promote Bracco, Moore and another Marlie. Hutchison would be resigned as the backup for 2 years on a one-way contract.

Or Brown and Kapanen or Johnsson or all 3.

Did you not see my post from earlier? My brother works for the Leafs. He told me what the plan was. It's as good as done.

The idea that Kapanen and Johnsson aren't replaceable is flawed

I agree with most of this except nylander on the 4th line which I assume is a mistake because he should be with matthews and luke glendening. If they are going to trade kadri they will want someone who is actually good and someone who babcock doesn't like. Lilly is probably ready for 3rd pair minutes over sandin who dubas will want to give the extra half season at the marlies.

I think the pairings next season will be
Rielly- miller from Vegas
Muzzin-dermott when he gets healthy
Rosen-lilly

Jack: I have been watching Marlies playoff games. Sandin is playing way better than Lilly, who I also like. I suspect that the two of them will be moved back and forth between Leafs and Marlies to make sure they both get exposed to NHL play.

Yea me to. Sandin has been playing like 29 minutes which is insane for his age. I just think with the need for right handed guys and the age/development for Lilly gives him the edge. I hope they give both of them a chance but I would expect dubas to bring sandin up half way through the season like they did with dermott. Dubas specifically said he wouldn't yo yo them up and down and he learned from when they did that with stuart percy, he wants to make sure the prospects are completely ready before they throw them in.

Think you have the draft picks backwards for the Zaitsev trade. I think you must have meant Zaitsev and 2 seconds for a 4th, because there is not a chance that Ottawa is going to give you 2 seconds for a bad contract.
