Hughes skating ability is built to dominate today’s NHL. Hughes will go number 1
this is such a lame answer.
He's not even that great a skater. He doesn't have McDavid like speed. He's no where near as slick as McKinnen.
Hughes is a good player at the level he is at now. But the NHL is a different game. You are talking about a league where little rats punch people in the back of the head from behind while they are kneeling and they don't even get a penalty. I'm sure Hughes will be one of these "new face of hockey" players. So the league will do what it does and pick and choose winners and loser. But.......
If you want the safer pick it's Kaapo, because he has the size and physical ability to play at the NHL level.
Hughes on the other hand plays in a set offense most of the time with his position in the circle. He's like a reverse Ovi over there. Where Ovi shoots, Hughes is looking to make a pass. He won't get that opportunity at the NHL. The other team will simply run him.
If I had to make a guess is that's Kaapo will have the quicker impact. Hughes will have to adjust and find his game.
Hughes has the higher ceiling, but that's only if he can deal with the pounding at the NHL level. He's going to have a very Crosby like experience in the NHL. I don't mean that in the sense that he'll be a generational talent. Because I don't think he has Crosby level talent. But in the fact that he's going to have to learn to stick up for himself and he's going to get beat on by larger players especially in the playoffs.
