I think they'd be willing to take his contract on the basis that they need to meet the cap floor and frankly don't have the cap concerns that the Leafs do. They get a decent player, and to them the cap makes little difference

Ottawa has 100 ways to "reach the cap floor" (even if that is true) better than taking Zaitsev. Not that I mind Zaitsev and his 4.5m isn't excessive, but teams want cap flexibility and five years is too long for teams to accept.
Canes trading two of four RHD, and one with excellent $$$ and term. An easy no from the Canes.

I completely forgot to consider the removal of two rhd, so great points.
I would take out Brown and TVR, trade Brown for someone similar instead.

I also don't think it makes any sense to trade Pesce, but as I said, i was just curious if something like this COULD work.
not reasonable tho, I agree, just wanted to think about it

If you have read my posts, I kinda think Nylander HAS to be traded for cap reasons. Trading Nylander for TVR and 1st is something I would do. Then hoping at least one of Liljegren.Duszak,Hollowell, Lindgren, Raseman are NHL ready in 2020/21 and the other in the future.

Carolina would still say no. Pesce is probably their best Defensive Defenseman, and on a great cap highly doubt they would trade him.

I expect better from you Bren... this is why Mitch >. (idk if that's sarcastic yet, it depends on your answer) Pesce has been easily one of the biggest reasons Carolina are playing Boston at this point in time, Nylander isn't gonna be the first ask, but because you're not moving Marner, Matthews or Tavares, Nylander is also the most realistic, William Nylander's 7 mil (6.9 but who cares?) compared to Pesce making less than 5, not only does this clear cap space, it sorts out Toronto's biggest need. Carolina also have less than 0 reason to move him, so an "overpay" in a sense would be needed, William Nylander's value is also at the lowest it has been in forever...

I think Pesce is slightly better on defense, but Slavin does better on offense, and does very well on defense too. Slavin is the best Defenseman on the team, but I give a slight edge to Pesce for defense.

Slavin is 3rd on the canes goalie chart, trust me Slavin is the best defensively on the team, and thats why he's so beloved by Canes fans
