Description
improved roster. IT CAN BE DONE!

marner @ 3y x 9m walking him to sign the season of the new television contract where the cap should raise significantly and we then sign him to 8 years.

Patty and Zaitsev moved to clear cap space with a significant price to pay to do so. Patty excepts trade with understanding hes to be bought out and can then sign wherever he wants.

Trades as always could involve a few differing picks/lower prospects. Gotta sweeten the pot enough for them to take on the buyout money.

Marner can be qualified for only two 1st rnd picks a 2nd and 3rd for a 10.65 AAV with term. Toronto has to give him around that kind of money to ensure Marner stays. Signing him is Priority #1 and if that means that Kapanen or Johnsson or even both get qualified as a result, then so be it because those kinds of players are replacable but, Marner is not

why does Marleau waive his NMC to go to the devils? Doesn't make much sense now does it?

Kadri is younger and better than Zajac but with that being said I don't think the gap is big enough for NJ to justify taking on 2 cap dumps.

at 3 years marner isnt worth 9. matthews almost accepted that. he isnt worth 10 on a 5+year contract. if they were looking at 3 years that would be a fail by dubas and he would have to sign for around 7 million. I just dont think marner will bridge

I figure he may except a trade if there is an understanding he's going to bought out. A team with a lot of cap space can buy him out and he can then sign anywhere he wants while making more money.

ya, but that team that buys him out has to pay 3.833 million dollars to do so.

Perfect then, anything less than 9 is more cap space to tinker with. I believe Marner is worth every bit of 9. Aside from the marner number what you think of the roster? Stralman and benning bridge the gap to sandin and lily, while playing the style dubies wants. 4th line centered by andronov from all accounts would be a good little upgrade over the goat and he replaces browns PK minutes.

I just ran the buyout calc for patty and the amount would only be $416,667 this coming season and the next. Am i missing something here?

yup. The buyout window closes before Marleau's signing bonus of 3 million is due. So they would have to pay that in full. 3 million signing bonus, + 416K this year, and next year.

Sure, see what your saying. An assortment of picks/prospects could be involved to sweeten if need be. This is just the jist of the deal. What you think of the roster otherwise mate?

there are two. The first one is the standard one and it ends on June 30th (Marleau's bonus is due July 1st). The second one is more complicated and I think is only available to teams that had an RFA go to arbitration. Either way though, in that instance the player that is to be bought out must be on the teams reserve list or roster by the prior trade deadline.

haha no problem. The NHL CBA might be the most complicated document in modern history. Cheers.
