I like where your head is at, as the Senators are going to have difficulty beating AHL teams next year, much less NHL teams... but I don't see the 2nd's coming back. Maybe 4ths.

Ottawa has replaced Arizona as the dumping ground. They will be looking at high-cap/low-salary (ie: front loaded contracts on the back end of their term) contracts to bring in.
staytru20 and palhal liked this.

edmonton declines. They'd rather buy him out if thats the return he gets. The only player that edmonton will trade away with significant cap and attach lots of value to in order to move, is Lucic

Don't do the TO trade... Zaitsev is garbage...

And, I'd switch the Duclair and White contracts...

I'd be down with the rest...

Contrary to what this guy says, Zaitsev is a serviceable 2nd pair defenceman. I doubt TO trades him unless they have some rabbits to pull out of their hat to find 2 other RHD that can play in the top 2 pairs. With all that said, a player who may be a little overpaid, doesn't cost a team a 2nd to move him. More like they could move him for a 5th rounder or something. Essentially getting no return at all for a player that is definitely an NHL player.

Zaitsev might be bad, but his contract makes perfect sense. I also don't think he's quite as bad as TOR fans make him out to be. It's his cap hit that makes everyone think he's awful.

happy^ This. Duclair won't be getting that kind of contract. I think till be anywhere between $1M to $2M depending on term.
By looking at comparables for White , and the Sens history with similar players coming off ELC. I'm thinking White gets a 2x2 or 3x3 type contract.

I don't know what to think of Minnesota. Not sure whats going to happen. Hear lots of rumours.

Detroit trade looks good.
Carolina as well.
And I agree, I think Perreault will be traded and I think Ottawa would be a perfect fit.

Overall, well done.

Agreed that he is a serviceable 2nd pairing RD. And if that is his only role and he is never asked to contribute on Special teams or 1st pairing, most other hockey markets wouldn't **** on him like he receives in TO.
BUT, I totally disagree with your comment that "a player who may be a little overpaid, doesn't cost a team a 2nd to move him. More like they could move him for a 5th rounder or something.". He is has 5 more years at $4.5M caphit. In other words, he has considerable term which most teams would shy away from therefore you MUST sweeten the pot if you are moving him. Secondly, his contract is heavily laden with Signing bonuses which completely removes the potential for other teams to buy him out IF his performance continues to drop at the current rate (remember, he has FIVE years remaining on his term). Thirdly, he has a modified 10 team no trade clause!!!
That the trifecta of bad contract. old player (over 27), lots of term, signing bonus and NTC.
Common, a 5th round to get rid of him????
Never going to happen. Lucky if you get rid of him for a 2nd. And that is only if you trade him this off season before his value continues to plummet.
