Description

Yes, I made other moves here, but I mainly want to look at the Zaitsev one.

For the Leafs: Shed the 4.5 million cap hit of Zaitsev by placing Gaborik on LTIR for the remainder of his deal (just like Horton)

For the Sens: Receive a NHL contributor while saving 375k in real money.

his contract is insured so ottawa doesnt have to pay him. They wont trade him because they get to keep the cap hit and not pay him so they probably want to keep him

Gaborik isn't a LTIR player, he's still healthy enough to play. So the Leafs would have to send him down, either way, trading a serviceable defenceman for a guy who just can't play anymore makes zero sense.

This is really what I needed to know, so thanks!

If there was an uninsured deal out there that would be an ideal trade target for Zaitsev. Not sure it exists though.
