Sens post Apocalypse

Initial Creation Date: May 13, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If I were Dorion, I'd weaponize the cap.
Theres a BUNCH of options out there for Ottawa to exchange capspace for picks/prospects.
The flavour of the week / whats caught my eye this week.
Florida Trade: IF Florida signs Bobrovsky as a UFA this summer, they MUST offload one of their goalies (Reimer/Luongo). I think Melnyk is salivating at the idea of a real money contract of $1M with a caphit of $4.5M. A straight deal of Luongo for a higher pick (maybe a 2nd could be possible), but I think the Sens will need to offload a goalie on their end as well (maybe send Condon the other way?). That being said, if Condon goes the other way, return won't be as high and may end up only being mid round picks.
Edmonton Trade: Edmonton will most likely be offloading a Defender this summer. Likely Sekera or Russel. I think Ottawa would bite on Russel as they need RHD depth as they have nothing. A big Melnyk special here is that Russel comes at $4M cap hit which helps him reach the floor. But most importantly, he only has 2 years of term left and he last year only comes at $2.5M caphit. Oilers would probably prefer to offload Sekera due to his caphit but Sens already have way too many LHD.
Tampa Trade: This one is tough (hard to assess value). I think Tampa will likely try to offload Calahan. Sens "could" maybe be a good fit. Value would probably be a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

With regards to contract signings. I think Dorion is still very enamoured by Ceci, and will likely be offering him a 4 or 5 year term at anywhere near 4 to 5 million caphit. This is not what I would do, but it is what I expect will get done.
I also imagine White will be given a 2 or 3 year bridge deal, anywhere around the 2 to 3 Mil mark.

I can also see Dorion offering up / packaging some players and picks and trying to move up the draft this year. This means you could see a LHD moving or maybe a Centre as they have many of those in the pipeline and current lineup.

If the floor is 62is Mil, I imagine the Sens will make a few moves similar to what I just displayed to bring them up to the 60 to 70Mil mark. I also anticipate hey will try to give themselves room to give themselves a bit more leeway and make sure they are closer to 70Mil.
But boy, just looking at their lineup, its going to be a rough year ahead. Good thing they own their own 1st next year. OUCH.
My 2 cents.

Yeah. Thats the kicker ain't it. Calaghan needs to waive, and why would he. Lol.

But as I said, Tampa will be trying to move Calaghan. Questions is... where does he land.
I simply marked the Sens as a potential suitor IF Calaghan were to waive for a tire fire club.

Speculation is Rangers, NJ, Buffalo. He had a decent year was healthy. Plays well third/fourth line, kills penalties, great leader, comes to compete every night. The problem is the salary cap 5.8 and salary of 4.8 hard to justify.

I will never understand how someone gave Kris Russell a NMC.

I guess he DID finally land in Ottawa. LMAO. Guess all it took for this trade to take place was for Callahan to guarantee Melnykl that he wouldn't play and his salary would be paid by insurance.

And the cheap owner saves the 2.5 mill he would have paid the goalie.
