I'd be really hesitant to make this trade as Colorado. I'd probably be more willing to move Barrie for a 2C.

Horvat is worth two 4th overall picks? I don't know if Colorado does Makar straight up for Horvat nevermind another 4th overall pick in this years draft.

I'd do it from either teams standpoint.

Vancouver gets a potential top pairing defenceman and a 1st and get younger. Colorado has other defence that are already playing well and could use some depth and now would have one of the best 1-2 punches down the middle in the west.

Since Colorado is entering there contention window, this helps them with that, while Vancouver gets a guy who can grow with their young core of Petterson, Hughes and Boeser.

I get the arguement that this is a steep price to pay for Colorado but I think it makes them a better team in the short term and over the next several years since Horvat is still young.

I agree with you completely.
But to all the people think this price is ridiculous. Would you do Jost Timmins and the Ott 1st for Horvat?

Benning might because he has no idea what he's doing but I wouldn't. Makar is a future piece Timmins is a win now player. I'd keep Horvat over Timmins.

I wouldn't expect Colorado to give that heavy of a haul for a 2C. Barrie is probably the way to go since they already have Girard and Makar as their new QBs.

I can certainly see why Colorado or Canucks fans wouldn't want to do it. The Canucks would be dealing their soon to be captain and it's a significant price for the Avs. But to argue that Horvat is not a number 1 center is BS. He played against the other teams' top line, had no decent wingers and scored 27 goals. He's 24 and would give the Avs a great one-two punch.

And you think the 2nd on the Avs warrants potentially a Top Pairing combo of Makar and Byram for the next decade? Do you not see how delusional that is?

Don't think it's delusional at all. Maybe Makar and/or Byram MIGHT BE that, but Horvat IS a no. 1 center. Potential is a very important thing and many fans (me included) often side with potential over a known quantity. But it doesn't always pan out, in fact, it's more common for players not to live up to their potential.

If you're argument was that the Avs would be better off not doing the deal and keeping their window open longer, I would respect that. I just don't buy that it's delusional.

when every comment here is you are delusional from every other fan base other than Canuck fans...I think you are in the minority on this one. The fact that you are already trying to diminish Makar value in an attenpt to justify this, just shows you that you are already grasping for straws on this point and clearly you haven't watched a second of the kid play already.

Avs fan wouldnt move Makar straight up for Horvat, you think you get the 4th overall with him too...come on man come down to earth on this one

Really? Did you read the comments? Is Stan Bowman a Canucks fan? or Logan Olliver? I can go on and on. There's only one other person who agreed with you (another Avs fan) that the proposal was delusional.

BTW, I'm not saying that the Avs would or should do this. Like I said, I certainly appreciate why they wouldn't. But no GM would trade Horvat straight up for Makar.

Lots of variables, age, contract, ice time... But all else being equal, I would lean towards player A because the goals per game is higher

Congrats you picked Bo Horvat (which you probably guessed that was the intent and could see his point total total) however the Point is that Player B is....Kevin Hayes who is a UFA this year and will get almost what Horvats contract is. You dont need to give up Makar and the 4ht overall to get that level of player.

Sure if you want a player who is four years older, will likely get paid more and isn’t a number 1 center. No comparable at all.

24 vs 27 (who just turned that 2 weeks ago). They are very similar players and very close in age for someone you will get in the 5.5m-6m range to be your 2C. Horvat isnt a 1C across the league, he is your 1C...theres a difference there.

And there is also Jost who has very similar stats to Horvat at 20 years old and 20 years in the league. Again Lets not try to act like Horvat is some sort of Cant miss and mortgage the future to get sort of 2nd Line C for the Avs.

Hayes and Horvat are comparables. They are similar players with similar Ppgs, goals etc. Just one is a UFA now and one will be in 3 years when Horvats contract is done. You get the same production and value of them at what will be negligible cap hit differences
