So Phil Kessel won’t waive his modified no-trade to go to MIN. How about NSH?
Extensions to get done this year.
Murray-6,000,000(6 yrs)
McCann-2,750,000(4 yrs)
Simon-1,250,000(3 yrs)
Caggiula-2,000,000(3 yrs)
Barrie-5,500,000(4 yrs)
Signing of Anders Lee brought us about to the cap. Still some picks(besides the 3 1sts this year)(1st, 3rd(3), 4th(2), 5th(2),6th(2), and 7th(3) that we could add too pretty much any trade if necessary. Our team is young, and 3 first rounders(2 in top-5) in a fantastic draft can't hurt the youth movement.
A couple D included in trades are UFAs so they would have to be resigned first.
A younger, faster, more skilled forward group that's pretty inexpensive for now...most will get raises after their next contract expires, but the Pens can cross that bridge in a couple years. They will have to trade a D-man in a couple years to afford the forwards.
Good balance on defense.
Prospect Gildon(FLA trade), Oula Pavle, and other prospects can hopefully add when they're ready.
New Group(including scratches) had a combined 769pts. (293g+476a) in 1320 gp(.58ppg/.22gpg) last year compared to last year's team(players at the end of the year)...
675pts(235g+440a) in 1,167gp(.58ppg/.20gpg).
So the scoring is still there for this group even without Malkin, Kessel, Hornqvist, Shultz, and Bjugstad. A chunk of that comes from the souped-up D-core, as the additions of Offensive D-men Barrie and Subban provide quite the 2nd pair.
