Cizikas
Shaw
Clutterbuck
Hyman
Just a few examples of guys that aren't prototypical top 6 players who received long term deals..Do your research before contradicting yourself lol. Hyman might be the most comparable player there.
Cizikas - 5 yrs × $3.35M starting in 2016-17 (4.59% of cap)
Shaw - 6 yrs × $3.9M starting in 2016-17 (5.34% of cap)
Clutterbuck - 5 yrs × $3.5M starting in 2017-18 (4.67% of cap)
Hyman - 4 yrs × $2.25M starting in 2017-18 (3% of cap)
Which of these players signed for 6 years at less than $3M? Which in 2019-20 would be 3.61% of the projected $83M cap. Hyman is the only one below that, however he only signed a 4 year contract, not 6. Everyone knows more term for RFA's means a higher cap hit. Next time, do your own research.
By the way last year:
- Cizikas 14:01 min / game (3rd line)
- Shaw 15:55 min / game (2nd line)
- Clutterbuck 13:58 min / game (3rd line)
- Hyman 17:31 min / game (1st line)
Only two of these guys can be considered bottom 6's, and I think it's generally accepted that it was a bad idea for their teams to sign them long term.
