VAN decline and laugh, they don't need a overpaid pylon on the backend.

Zaitsev may be a lot of things but a pylon he is not.

That's fine. But if Lindell is worth $5.8 x 6, i'm sure Leafs could find someone to take Zaitsev for next to nothing. Particularly after we pay the July 1st $3 million dollar bonus.

If Zaitsev is so useful why don't the Leafs just keep him? instead there is just countless Zaitsev trade proposals on this site.

In the spurgeon trade, make the 3rd a 1st and it’s a good deal for both.

That spurgeon Trade is very bad for the leafs future. I think if you replace liljegren with lindgren it’s a bit better.

I am okay with the basis of kapanen for spurgeon. I think this fits both teams needs. With spurgeon being a rental I don’t see us needing to add much in the way of futures as we are moving a roster player. I think that kappy and a conditional first on re sign would be much closer to fair.

Think of it this way. Spurgeon plays for the leafs for one season walks in ufa and goes back to the wild. They now have spurgeon and kappy and the leafs are left with nothing. If wild were to retain in spurgeon I would add a 2nd.

I used the Muzzin deal as a comparable and increased the offer based on:

1. Spurgeon is better
2. We get him for a full season.

Most leafs fans see the issue in trading zaitsev. He is very difficult to replace. We have a lot of rhd in the system and zaitsev is not part of the long term plan.

In case you haven’t noticed there are trades involving kapanen Johnsson Kadri Hyman nylander and brown. All are good player but cap needs to be shed.

Not sure why we don’t see more muzzin trades. I’m going to get on that right now.

VAN has no need for Zaitsev they are looking for a top 4 dman who can also play on the powerplay.

1. Yes spurgeon is better, I think he should have been the target.
2. We got muzzin for 2 seasons
3. (You missed this one) how many roster players were moved in the muzzin Trade, answer... zero.

Kapanen is worth a 1st and a b prospect so that leaves you with a b prospect owing. Now you need to do the math on how much better is spurgeon better than muzzin then divide that by 2 since it is a 1 year rental.

I think Spurgeon is significantly better than Muzzin. Assuming we could re-sign him I'm comfortable with the deal.

Got no problem paying less though! smile

Zaitsev is not a top 4 dman, he can't play on the powerplay. I don't understand your point? Zaitsev needs to play sheltered minutes and has no hockey iq.

Also, Assuming VAN re-signs Edler you'd think they'd be comfortable with Hughes and Edler each quarterbacking a PP unit. No?

Zaitsev top 4 Dman on a playoff team. Excellent QB on the power play, broke the leafs rookie Dman assist record quarterbacking the power play.

You should try watching hockey some time. It’s a fun sport.... asshat...

Personally I think zaitsev to Vancouver doesn’t fit. They have stecher and tanev and plenty of guys to play the bottom pair and no real need on the pp.

Fair exough. Destination isn't important to me. Shedding $ to fit Spurgeon in was the intention.

I wouldn’t mind having both, it can be done.

I think the temperament of canes fans has come down a bit now they got knocked down a peg. I’m probably going to throw up some pesce trades to grind them lol.

I think he would be a great partner for Rielly.

you know what you said

Lindell’s underlying numbers are nearly identical to zaitsev’s but I will agree that the eye test shows he is better.

I think this contract demonstrates the upward trend in rfa contracts. In 2 years zaitsev’s contract may not look as bad. Especially if he can keep up his solid defensive play and get some pp time, where he shined in his rookie season.

LMAO relax tough guy, just because nobody wants Leafs garbage you don't need to get so butt hurt, Zaitsev had one good productive year where Mike Babcock and his stupid reason to not play Rielly on the powerplay that year. Zaitsev as a rookie was terrible even strength and compiled a lot of powerplay points and played a premium position RHD and got a 7 year deal based on PP points. He is only useful when he plays in a sheltered role and that's how Babcock will continue to deploy him.

Except that this year in the playoffs he played anything but a sheltered role. He and Muzzin ate tough minutes and he played just fine.
