Won't Vegas just LTIR Clarkson and get full relief anyway? Why drop down 2 picks for no reason?

Because right now they're already over the cap with Karlsson, Gusev and Subban to sign. 83M on 19 players. They will likely move Clarkson's deal. And it is very appealing to Ottawa. Maybe Ottawa adss something small idk

(I believe) you're allowed to be 10% over the cap until the season starts. So once LTIR kicks on for Clarkson they'll be much closer if not completely fine. It's not an unreasonable trade if there is a concrete reason why they do it. But as I said I thinkkkkk they can be 10% over for now

I wish my DATM had utilized cap space for the Sabres. He was too lazy to trade space for picks or prospects, instead before the start of the 2014 season he signed Matt Moulson, Brian Gionta, Andrej Meszaros and Cody McCormick to $25,000,000 for 5 years $12,750,000 for 3 years, $4,125,000 for 1 year $4,500,000 for 3 years, respectively. Prior to that gave up a 2nd for Josh Gorges who had 4 years remaining on a $3,900,000/year. So he gave up a second and wasted over $18,550,000 cap. Does $18,550,000 equate to 3 first round picks? I would speculate he could have received a first for the $25,000,000 space (Moulson), a couple of seconds, if not another 1st for $15,600,000 space (Gorges), another second at least for $12,50,000 (Gionta) and a third for $4,125,000 (Meszaros). Yet to this day there are many people who think he did a good job and should not have been fired.

rangers say no-- they can also weaponize cap space-- they can essentially do the same trade with tampa and get a much better deal. a buyout would cost the salary they take on for this year.. 4th rounders rarely make the nhl so theres better allocation for the 2.9 million

Vegas is going to have to give up a lot more than moving down 2 spots to get rid of the Clarkson deal. They are in a spot where they're going to have to give up a decent asset for anyone to take it on. For everyone saying just throw him on LTIR, it's not that simple, there is cap implications down the road because of that and it will restrict them from getting things done this offseason.
