This deal almost got them Ekblad at the deadline, and he's more valuable then Ellis. I chose to get Ellis because he's on a better contract and doesn't have a concussion history.

got a source for that? That seems like a low ball offer for Ekblad considering Florida has no depth at RHD behind Eklbad

Chris Johnston. It was broken out that a package including Kadri, Gardiner and Brown almost got them Ekblad. Apparently, the only thing stopping that deal from happening was the time. I upgraded Brown to Kapanen since we don't have Gardiner.

And? You think the Leafs shouldn't go after him? He just played 2 full seasons.

Why does everyone propose manning to Leafs?
He is not NHL level d man, we already have plenty of his level d in our system

His GAR is similar to Dermott, and he's still a massive upgrade on Zaitsev.

So, the Ducks get $20+ mil in salary obligations for Zaitsev, a 27 year old "prospect", a backup goalie who can't stop a beach ball, and who most likely gets waived at the start of next year anyway, and the cost of this is moving down in the second round? Give me a break. Zaitsev is the epitome of a salary dump. If he wasn't, then you'd be happy to keep him. You're essentially saying "Here's out trash, thanks for picking it up!"

As for Ellis, he just signed an extension.

Zaitsev showed he could be a shutdown RHD
At most he is slightly overpaid but that's it

Ducks are desperate for an experienced RHD, so they get Holl (who is at the very least an NHL player) and Sparks, who they can do whatever they want with.
Nashville is desperate for some offense, which they probably won't get unless they trade one of their RHD.

Zaitsev is only good with Muzzin, and I'd take Benning at under $1mill over Zaitsev at $4.5mill for the next 5 years.

he said it on a podcast.

Which podcast? If you're talking about the SteveDangle podcast then this is all false information. That's not what he said at all.

He said that he got wind that the Leafs were working to acquire a big name defensemen (assumed it was right handed but didn't know for sure). He said that it involved moving "multiple contracts in multiple deals" but it was only something that would be done if they were targeting a big name player. He also said directly that "if he knew who it was, he'd have just told them (Steve, Jesse, and Adam)" but he didn't know for sure who it was so he couldn't. Said he thought the Leafs would revisit those same talks in the summer but also didn't know who would be involved in the trades. So I really hope that that isn't your source, because if it is then you're completely wrong and talking with no facts.

I'm pretty sure if you re-listen to that episode, those were the exacts words he said.

Holl is an NHL player? I find it somewhat odd that, on a team starved for RHD, he only played 11 games for the Leafs this season. STUD!

Here's a better idea for the Ducks-Sign a RHD as a UFA and save yourself the ridiculous amount of money that remains on the Zaitsev contract. Or, alternatively, if you're going to take a bad contract, send one the other way. Or, even more alternatively, if you're going to take a bad contract, you might as well get some real assets to come with it. Not a 7th/8th dman and a AHL goalie.

As for Nashville, it's been heavily rumored that if anyone moves, it's Subban and his giant contract. If someone wants Ellis, sure, but he can fetch more than you're offering.

It was a big name, and other reports have suggested that the Leafs were a hair away from Ekblad.

Then why not keep him? The Leafs have needed a shutdown RHD for as long as the world has spun. All of the sudden you proclaim to have one, but he's still getting moved? Come on.

Lol nobody wants Subban, they'll have to give something to get something. Do you think Toronto wants to move Kadri's great contract or Kapanen? No, but they need to in order to improve the RHD.

So, you heard this on a podcast, but can't remember which podcast, and the podcast that you can't remember didn't directly reference Ekblad, but someone else did, and somehow you deduced that it was Ekblad for Gardiner (Pending UFA), Kadri (Down season) and Brown (8 G, 21 A).

Would you trade Morgan Rielly for Henrique (Down season), Shore (10 G, 19 A), and a couple of months of Gardiner (If he were a Duck?). No. No you wouldn't.

Yeah Zaitsev is a $2mill player.

Ok, well he's owed $22.5 mil.

So, if you want to move him, and we agree that he's worth $10 mil/5 years, then you've got to figure out how to make up for the remaining $12.5 mil that he's owed.

I can assure you that Holl and Sparks don't come close to doing that.
