Trouba is a rfa with a contract extension this summer, its not like u can wait 1 year and get him for free ( even if in theory its possible) he won't sign 1 year with Winnipeg now, cuz who would jeopardize their future like that?. and Winnipeg knows the outcome and will trade him now for a reasonable return

Who does Detroit leave unprotected in the expansion because they half to WASTE a spot on Lucic? Watch if Holland moves Lucic out of Edmonton I bet that team makes the playoffs. I forget who said it but I did read it on this site about an overpaid player causing all kinds of problems in the locker room. Edmonton has enough offense and their D is very underrated.

Wings aren’t either. By that logic he’ll stay in Columbus. Or go to the islanders, or Boston, anywhere but Detroit

Trouba will be an UFA in July 2020. He can take out an insurance policy to mitigate a career ending injury: that is why he will only sign a 1 year deal.

If the Jets take him to arbitration, he gets to decide the length of the deal. If they don’t he simply can sign an offer sheet for 1 year and force their hand ($4,227,437 and all it would cost is a 2nd rounder—he’d more than make up the 1-2M in UFA vs signing a 2 year deal).
