don't like giving up the 1st in that deal at all..

I get kreider coming up on UFA but taking Marleau back should be enough, let alone also giving up shatty with retaining half

Wasn't sure how many Leaf fans would be open to this. Threw in the 1st (to at least see if they're onboard) and then maybe scale back from there.

an a NYR fan i would approve this in the long run, we can spare Marleau caphit easily 1 year and get the better player in return vs Kreider. as much as I love Kreider as anyone ells in msg he is on the decline of the prejucture that our team is heading in, and TML could rly use him NOW aswell as a RHD shattendick. but this would probably recuire a buyout of Marleau and there is just so many ifs that this kinda deal happens I'm afraid

most will come back with Kreider being a UFA and Shattenkirk not being a good defender.. Cap space can be used as a weapon and it should be in any potential deal with toronto. this gives them enough cap space to deal with Marner, Kapanen, Johnsson while addressing a need. I'm sorry but shattenkrik at 3.3m for 2 years is COMPLETELY worth it. Throw him on toronto and he puts up 50+ easily.

Oh, Marleau is getting bought out. Absolutely. But on a +35 Contract, the Buyout only counts for the 19-20 Season (at the full amount) and $0 for 20-21. For the sake of the deal, I think Rangers could stomach that for one year.

Drop the 1st rounder, Shattenkirk and have Kreider sign an extension and it works

Marleau would have to willing to retire...to take the buyout. Even Shattenkirk may not waive. But if the deal stands, as suggested above the Rangers could probably do the deal without the first.
Unless you love Strome and centre long term, I'd put Nylander at centre and let him grow into that position.

If that's an option, would gladly take that. I just made this proposal while considering Kreider as an upcoming UFA.

I think the only reason it makes sense to trade Kreider preseason is if there's an extension packaged with it. A Pacioretty style package is the most sensible to emulate but I think Nylander coming back with Marleau's cap hit to make up for the age difference makes sense as well.

I like Strome, but he isn't a long term option for the Rangers. Wherever Nylander fits best works for me. Rangers are just thinner at the wings (and that's even assuming they sign Panarin and Draft Kakko, along with Kravtsov coming up). They have young Center options in Howden, Andersson and Chytil (his natural position, even though they played him on the wing last Season). If Nylander proves to be better at C, then I am all for it. I just had the mindset of him at RW.

i also see a better fit in C for Nylander, he is a possoesstion player and a playmaker that obviously fits more at C, hes not a speedster or a natural finisher that we have more naturals fits in now. Nylander to NYC i see as a great fit, just hope the opportunity & prize also does

Doesn't really work that way unless the clause is Kreider has to extend before the day of the draft, which gets messy. Rangers wouldn't send any 2020 picks to make a condition like that work in case.

Most of these extensions is just crazy talk. You allow player to negotiate with another team and if they don't come to agreement the trade is off and now this player has to come back to a team that doesn't want him. Don't think the Leafs would be that interested in extending Kreider if only for cap reasons.
Have Kreider for year is good for the Leafs (replacing Marleau). If Leafs don't feel they have a long playoff run they might even trade him at TDL, but probably he would be a Leaf for only a year.

Regarding Nylander at centre. Since Rangers with this trade would be in a rebuilding year, might be an idea for a little bit of experimenting thinking long term.

Absolutely. No issue experimenting to see where he works best. Just had the mindset of him at RW.
