They can if they move other pieces like they should or maybe buyout Eakin. There's a whole offseason ahead to clear cap if they need to.

Doubt they'd need to buyout Eakin, he's a solid 3C so should be a few teams willing to give a pick or two for him.

I agree, I more just meant in the worst case scenario they could buy him out to create space.

They were given dynasty type opportunities, and cap issues and age going to track this team down faster than expected, I would have tried to double dip on next expansion also with the fact that they are not included in expansion draft unless they are banking on that to keep there squad rolling, but the need for cap will be important at that point

No cap with very little organizational depth. Not a good combo.

So much has been made of the Leafs cap crunch - and they have some depth. Yet, it's still a cap crunch. Vegas is screwed.

Gonna be selling for pennies on the dollar to fix it.

I think you're both overblowing the Knights cap crunch, they should be able to move pieces and get picks back, like they need to move Eakin or Miller not Lucic or Kesler.. Lol

I'm not a Knights fan either.

"reportedly looking to trade" is the opposite of official

Lol. That's exactly what I was going to say. It's like saying they definitely might consider trading him.

Easy to say but I think eakin key to there depth especially with stasny and Haula bandaid status, I don’t mind the miller move but moving bransstrom out, I don’t see a real top 4? Amongst the prospects

What about Nic Hague or that Jimmy Schuldt guy they signed?
There's other guys they could move besides Miller or Eakin though, Reaves, Holden, Merrill and Haula add up to what like $8?
Would need some cheap replacements obviously but idk, I think they'll be fine.

Possibly, I just think it’s a better move, moving smith 5 million out if possible over a bunch of smaller moves

For a team with such little depth, depth will be key. So yes, I do see a larger money move coming. No pieces to replace the smaller parts. But the smaller parts can fill in for a bigger one.

Just my opinion but Smith is sneaky good and flys under the radar, I wouldn’t break up the Karlsson-Smith-Marchessault line. I think the Pacioretty acquisition and subsequent signing wasn't the best move though.

Ya I factored that also, but just value per cap hit and possible return and depth up the middle, with stasny and Haula probably only playing 60 games each ish, it all gets back to smith than marcheassault.

If Vegas want to trade Miller for cap relief....meaning a return of picks/prospects almost eliminates the Leafs as partners, as well as some other teams.

An earlier comment on Clarkson. C'mon. he doesn't affect the cap at all.

Wouldn't Miller to the Leafs for one of Borgman or Rosen plus some picks be a fair deal? Though idk if the Leafs can fit Miller, they'll be so tight for space, or is that what you meant as to why it'd eliminate the Leafs as a trade partner option?

After the Leafs sign their RFAs they are 6.75m approximately over the cap. Just saying adding cap with a Miller trade means even more shedding of cap somehow. Easy part of any trade is exchanging "on ice value", it's finding the right cap partner which makes things difficult. But as you suggest....Miller on the ice is what the Leafs would want.

Gotcha, that's what I thought you meant.
Gonna be interesting to see what the Leafs among others do this summer.

You're right, it's going to be interesting this summer. "Lots" of teams are over the cap or near the cap and need to shed salary. Who does it best? And what teams get this excess players.

This is why I don’t understand all the quick fix builds of Vegas on here getting rid of there muscle advantage or anybody off that blueline. Unless there’s a dman I’m not seeing like whitecloud or somebody else in Chicago ready to play in top 4, I just see tuch and or glass cracking top 6, so points to odd man out smith, but obviously going to be entertaining summer in lots of places

They have the best defense core in the AHL and is what allowed them to trade Brannstrom, also just signed 2 time Hoby Baker finalist in Schuldt. Vegas future at the back end is strong.

I hope the oilers trade for this guy

Meh. I wouldn't give up much, not sure he can play top-4.
