Description
Trade with Dallas would hopefully get the Leafs to draft Moritz Seider, RHD from Germany. Hyman and Dermott will both miss the start of the season but I think Hyman should play on the 3rd line when he returns (like Babs would actually do this to his favorite) and Dermott would start in the third pairing and maybe move up to the 2nd and force Muzzin to play his off side and allow Hainsey to play his natural left side and help mentor Liljegren. I would like Rosen to play for Hainsey every few games to keep him rested while Rosen gains experience. I'm sure people will think the Oilers wouldn't accept the Larsson trade, but they like Brown and a deal for Larsson was in the works around the deadline but never came through. Larsson has a bad rep with Oiler fans who see him only as the guy they traded Taylor Hall for so I believe he's very vulnerable to a trade, would maybe only have to throw on a late round pick to seal the deal.

In the short run you're probably right, but I felt like it was needed to clear some cap space and bring in a good 3C (future very solid 3C) and then a prospect on the right side of the blue line

It's terrible for the Leafs. Not to mention, why would Dallas bring in $10m of contract for a guy that looks like a solid 2nd liner AT LEAST??

The Edmonton deal isnoff the mark. Larsson can be had, but the package is weak. Holland isn't a dumb guy. You are looking at Kappy with window dressing to get him listening. Oiler fans don't have to like Larsson, but I suspect Holland knows what he has. Brown and Zaitsev is a miss.

Like I mention in the description, Larsson has a bad rep there and deal for him was almost in place before the deadline. What would have to be added to make you think they would accept.

That was Connor Brown for Matt Benning, Larsson had a bad year but they have also invested heavily in him and will likely keep him around to see if he can improve.

You never know . . . Victor Soderstrom might still be available at #16, too. Either way, one of them will get picked by Las Vegas at #17, unless George McPhee does something as strange as he did at last year's draft.

If you feel that strongly about the Dallas trade, then the other one should have knock you right off your chair. The value of a Brown/Zaitsev combo coming back is about a 6th round pick.

Some of our esteemed Toronto colleagues maintain that Kadri and Kapanen or Kadri and the 2019 second plus a prospect should be enough to get that first (without Hintz).

The nature of so many NHL trades is that you just can't dump salary onto a team because they may not have the space either...even if the on ice trade is fair.
Forget signing Ferland, all the Leafs have to do is trade Nylander for no cap in return, and they should be cap compliant .
