Don't know enough about the return to really say.
All I know is that after JR traded FOR Gudbranson and Dallas signed the Lindell contract, Zaitzev is worth Connor McDavid somehow.

There's really nothing wrong with the Lindell contract as of now though.

There wasn't anything wrong with the Lucic deal when it was signed, or the Zaitzev contract, or the [insert your favourite punching bag contract here], etc

As a Stars fan no. I still like Gurianov and he will be in the top 6 next season and still have his entry level deal still going on. I know the Stars will need a top 4 D-man but Zaistev is not the answer considering his contract. The Stars would probably sign Stralman or Myers

I think it's pretty close. Think the Leafs may want Faska over Janmark, simply because it creates other possibilities (see Kadri). Honka I really like. The two prospects are solid, however, given the Leafs depth on the right side, Gurianov is redundant. I would sooner say Robertson as the sole prospect coming back. Better than the two suggested, and fills a need on the LW.

Kappy, Zaitsev and the picks for Faska, Honka and Roberston is where I would go. Be a difficult deal for Dubas not to look at seriously.

I didn't like the Lucic deal or the Zaistev deal. Esa Lindell is a heck of a defenceman eating the most minutes and being the Stars top PK specialist. Klingberg may slightly carry him but Lindell proved that he is no place holder for Heiskanen

Jason Robertson is too good to be traded considering the way he has developed since being drafted

Try watching Stars games more often. Advanced analytics are nice to look at but they do not tell the whole story. Zaistev is not a better D-man than Lindell lol

I'm a Stars fan as well. My take on it was that if we're unable to sign Strålman as a free agent we should consider acquiring an available D, which include either Zaitsev, Matt Niskanen or Kevin Shattenkirk. All 3 of them are serviceable 2nd pair d-men, and alongside Heiskanen they'd be even better. Niskanen would probably be the best option out of three, but he's probably also the most expensive one. Shatty on the other hand is offensive one, don't see him as good pair for Heiskanen. But Zaitsev is still decent enough mid pair D, also the cheapest of the three. I can't consider signing Myers as realistic option, since I believe he's going after a big contract with NMC included (the fact that he's the 2nd best RHD available will get his contract even bigger), which means we'd have to protect him in the expansion draft. At our current state, we already have the 3 d-men that we must protect. Zaitsev becomes a handy option in there as well, as he could be one of the most likely players for Seattle to take...

I am aware of how good he looks. Point is he is still unproven, whereas Kappy has proven something, and has shown a strong 200 foot game.

In my opinion Faksa and Robertson are pretty much unavailable this point. These fellas here are big parts of the future of the Stars.

I've seen that statistic, but those charts seem pretty untrustworthy. According to that site, Andrew Shaw is one of the best forwards in the entire league. Just see for yourself.

I would not rule out the Stars trading for Zaistev considering how good Polak was but Zaistev does not seem intriguing for the Stars. I do really feel that the Stars can sign Stralman but if not I would give Columbus a call about getting a guy like Markus Nutivaara or possibly Ryan Murray

Both of these fellas are going to cost a lot. And we most likely would be losing one of them in the expansion draft. Long-term it is not the most wise decision.

All I can say is if the Stars actually got Zaistev I would just gonna lose my mind for a little while and just hope he works out and that, Toronto is just a city that gives players too much pressure. Could be the reason why Zaistev has sucked a lot

As a Stars fan I would not entirely mind the Stars traded Robertson if the Stars can have Andreas instead. He would be a better fit in Dallas

Whoever said he was better? Certainly not me.
I just said his contract was going to be worse than Zaitsev's as Lindell was propped up by Klingberg the same way Rielly was propping up Zaitsev's, which is what the chart shows.

You just simply do not watch the Dallas Stars then. Understandable considering they are not a mainstream team like the Leafs, Habs, Bruins etc. But you should still check them out once in a while. No Lindell will not do anymore dives out there

Polak wasn't good this year though. All he did was hit people. If you look at his play, his stats, and his advanced stats he played like a borderline 7th defenseman. I don't understand other Stars' fans fascination with a guy simply because he hits people. He finished with awful offensive stats (he's not an offensive guy, but he did nothing to contribute to driving the offense), his defense was awful, and his puck possession was among the worst in the league. By all measures, he was an AHL defenseman this season, and I pray the Stars don't bring him back. No chance someone as talented as Miro should be playing with a fringe-NHLer.

Can't see Columbus trading Murray, but they should absolutely move Nutivaara while his value is where it's at. Nutivaara is an under the radar top-4 RD that has already dominated with Heiskanen in international competition. He should be at the very top of the Stars shopping list this offseason. A package surrounding Jason Dickinson should absolutely be fine with the Stars, considering what they are giving up in return. And in regards to the expansion draft, remember what I said about Nutivaara being an under the radar top-4 RD? You could very well trade Seattle a high...ish pick to have them take someone else off the roster, instead of one of our defensemen.

High-ish pick is not the issue. As you stated, Nutivaara and Heiskanen could form a dominating pair, and with Nutivaara's contract, he's like a dream pick for Seattle. It's worth for Seattle to take Nutivaara over a roster player and a first round pick at that point, which is something I worry about...

Not necessarily right now but in a couple years the contract will look just fine. Also I do not expect the Stars to bring back Polak but you can not deny that he was a great leader and an example of a hard working D-man. He was for sure a major influence for Miro

I've seen that statistic, but those charts seem pretty untrustworthy. According to that site, Andrew Shaw is one of the best forwards in the entire league. Just see for yourself.

They are advanced numbers. They are difficult to read on their own, and this is regularized adjusted plus minus (RAPM), which takes the already hard to understand numbers and throws them off a cliff and asks you to read the fine print written on them to understand them (If you don't fully understand what they are showing that is).

The chart says Lindell took lower % shots than his team did when he was on the ice vs off, and that he scored on a higher % of those shots than would be expected, but a lesser amount than his team would have done had Lindell been off the ice. That is a summation of the first two columns.

The off_Corsi column says that Lindell's team had more possession when Lindell was off the ice than on (ie his team was in the other teams end more without Lindell on the ice).
The argument I know you are about to make is that he is a DFD and that ofc he would be in his own end more. That is not what is being measured. The stat is measured in a way that it shows possession of the puck, and so it means that Lindell cannot get the puck out of his end and into the other teams end as well as his team mates when Lindell is off the ice (aka without Klingberg doing it for him).

the DF_xGF column says that when Lindell was on the ice, his team allowed the other team to shoot from higher % areas (more dangerous areas) then when he was off the ice, but only by a bit more than his team would have allowed without him (this effectively shows how well a guy can keep opposition to the outside).

The DF_Corsi column shows that when Lindell was on the ice, the other team had the puck more and was in Dallas' end. It is the other side of column 3 essentially.
It means he was stuck in his own end worse than had he not been on the ice.

Regularized Adjusted Plus Minus (RAPM) means the following:
Regularized: A players performance on the ice...
Plus-Minus: ...vs his team when the player is off the ice
Adjusted: This accouints for things such as zone starts and quality of competition and quality of team mates (tl;dr: The chart is saying that Klingberg did all the heavy lifting)

On an aside, I always find it funny that those who comment saying the charts are bogus have little to no understanding of them. Literally every single time the commenter says something that easily exposes this. For example:

The charts, which are why I posted them, show that Lindell was being made to look good by Klingberg, which is why the contract will look very, very bad.
The whole point of the chart is to prove that your eyes are lying to you.
