Until he is signed (making him ineligible for a trade for a year), or the Leafs make moves to ensure they can sign all of their RFA's, Kapanen has value equal to what offer sheeting him would cost, in this scenario a 2nd, even though he should be worth more. Their is some value in removing the Leafs ability to match, but I don't see that as being worth a 3rd, maybe a 5th because anything more is bad asset management. Trading him for a player is the better option, because players values aren't set.
