Nylander is not getting traded

Created by: Matthews34
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 21, 2019
Published: May 21, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I see so many teams with some trading of Nylander transpiring, and to them I have to say

It's. Not. Happening.

For numerous reasons. One, Dubas is a fan of his. He likes the player and has faith in him performing at a high level. Most recently he liked a tweet where OEL was quoted complimenting Nylander (which in this day and age, means something). Secondly, why would you trade a player at there ABSOLUTE lowest value? That's just poor asset management, and you wouldn't get a full return. Dubas knows this. Then I bet those asking for Nylander to be dealt would then complain about him performing well on another team. Or about the lack of return.

So I hate to break it to some of ya, but Nylander will be a Leaf. And I'm happy about it.

(The rest of this team is probably my ideal offseason, do with it what you will)

Good trades proposal...
And Nylander is one of most overvalued player in the league... one side offense player, 7M, 0.5M and -4 last year... on a winning team!!!!

I think he's become quite underrated honestly. Anyone who watched him realistically knows that the points he got didn't totally reflect his play. He had some great stretches during the year where he dominated possession. He DOES have a defensive side too, and that is his takeaway/backcheck ability. Admittedly he doesn't always use that skill though. Would like to see a higher compete level at times from him.

Things that Nylander isn't

1) Overrated
2) One dimensional
3) being shopped

A 23 year old top end talent with a contract that pays him below 7 million. He is a possession monster, and has had 1 bad year out of 3.

Things that are overrated

1) The opinions of fans
2) The opinions of a dude who takes more pleasure chirping the Leafs than seeing his own team succeed.

Lol

Nylander had a tough year, but Milan Lucic easily wins the most overvalued player in the league...

Can't see him being traded either, at least this year. He is given an opportunity to come back for a full year and likely play with Matthews.

Zaitsev trade is how I have said they will get rid of him. Not sure of the team, but someone would do that trade. I like Brown, but he goes for cap reasons. They have lots of young players making under $1m that can play on the 3rd or 4th line.

I like the Spurgeon trade especially if he re-signs first. It would be nice if the Wild would retain some salary so the Leafs can add a roster player or two, even if the Leafs have to add a small piece

I always said that TML is a very good team, awesone offense skills, poor defense and a goalie (under pressure) never help his team... Can you tell something else??

He's leading the WC in scoring, stop with this lazy analysis. Numbers and luck come and go, counting stats are always on a normal distribution centered around a players actual value, Nylander getting low return from his play is not more strange than Marner producing above his expected numbers. It happens randomly, it shifts. Jamie Benn was the scoring leader a few seasons back, this year Kevin LaBanc beat him out in production, you can't just look at counting stats or plus-minus and expect them to tell the entire story. He's actually way better on defense than Marner, but no one bothers to look into that, because the story is "Nylander sucks" and you're just piling on like everybody else

Agree with all of this. The team Zaitsev goes to I really don't care. Chose Vancouver for the sake of the exercise. Brown is good as gone, we just have cheaper replacements. And yeah, in an ideal world Spurgeon comes with a fresh new deal then we don't have to worry about the condition on the pick. If they retained a little on his deal this year I would add an extra sweetener but didn't do that here just to keep it simple.

This is the truth as well. I don't see them moving his deal and most fans are best off making their teams assuming the same.

I get your point but this is Armchair GM. The creator of the team is the GM and does as he pleases. I can understand getting miffed about trade value, but everyone is fair game in a mock team. Maybe not everyone. Marleau is a whole different scenario because he’s basically the GM of his future, not the creator of the mock team. ****ing Lou.

If anything hes not going to be traded after this shortened Season for him, tho i think real life GMs can detect talent away from what some gloaters are waveing around here and thats his 27 points this year.. We will talk about it next July again....

Very fair point. I just personally have yet to see a proposed trade that makes sense to MARLEAU and he's the guy that matters. But yes, people can do as they please, I just don't see it as realistic until I'm given reason to smile

I'm fine with people trading nylander, if they offer a fair return, but most are just tossing out a number 4 D, and a 25 point winger and calling it fair. High picks also dont do it, unless it's top 2-3, and can contribute next year. Other picks dont really fit the leafs' timeline.

Would you like us to point out every MTL fan post that overvalued all Habs players? Or every Carolina post that values Pesce higher than Doughty? Or every Islander's post that has Barzal being worth 4 times Tavares? Fans over reacting and over valuing their own players is a staple with every team. You yourself have been very guilty of having your emotions dictate worth.
