Skinner and crappy trades

Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 21, 2019
Published: May 21, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bozak is a better team player (as he's proving in this year's playoffs) than Kadri.

Brown for Benning was rumored what the Oilers wanted at the TDL, Dubas wanted Khaira and a pick instead.

LTIR cash dump and a pick for Zaitsev.

I know the Canes trade will be ripped apart. Leafs find their RHD and cash dump solution to keep Marner.

Finally a Dubas special, trading up and down the Draft table, this time up, 2018 he drafted down and still got his Dmen.

As for the contracts, I give Skinner more than JVR which I believe is his closet comparison. And Marner gets more than Draisaitl and less than Kucherov, seems fair.

Everybody should be glad I didn't include a Marleau contract out, like most Leaf ACGM's do.

But would Skinner sign in his hometown with a much better team but be willing to make about 1-1.5 mil less a year? If I'm him I guess Toronto would be a better place to sign

An all Toronto born line of Skinner-Taraves-Marner would be great. And yes Skinner would get 8 + million on the open market.

Not sure why you thought your Canes trade would get ripped apart. It's not bad. Perhaps one less pick from Carolina, but even if this were the trade, it is not terrible.

Giving the Canes a whole legit complete 2nd line just for a #2 RHD and a 4th liner and 2 mid rounders. I thought it was questionable. Though the Canes have the cap space to give those Leafs 14 million combine.

Pesce is the best player in the groups being moved, and (Leaf fans will hate this but the truth often hurts) it's not even close. Nylander is overrated at this point. Perhaps he turns into what many think he can do, but he hasn't done it yet. Kappy is a solid two-way 3rd/2nd liner with great speed. Johnson is average. Lots of guys like him. So you are trading a stud RHD (both his play and supply and demand laws drive up his value) and a guy who is solid but also probably average for a probable 2nd liner, a guy who has promise but hasn't shown it with a contract that pays him like he better show it, another average guy, two good picks and a thrown-in pick. I thought is was fair. Good RHD are a premium.

Well a line of Johnsson-Nylander-Kapanen gets you 65-70 goals scored, that's well above average, 3 20+ goal scorers are so not cheap. Wallmark is an average 4th line talent, probably not even capable of making the Leafs.
