Yeah probably. This way they might still stay somewhat competitive.

you really don't want to give up a guy like labanc considering they may not have many years left to compete

Debatable. Great playoffs, almost 60 point season for a 23 year old. These kind of players are rarity.

Same goes for Max Domi too, for example. Before this season, he also had smaller amount of goals than Lehkonen...

I can swap McGinn for Mäenalanen. Otherwise is just not worth it for SJ.

Either drop McGinn or drop Koukkanen, make the 1st rd 2019, or it's not worth it for CAR

2019 first
2020 3rd
either McGinn or Kouk

Ya ain't getting a close to 60-point 23yo winger for so low amount in value. There's not many players like that in the league.

First off, he had 1 season of 56 pts, and this season almost 100 people had that

his points per game have him at 122nd

2nd, for a comparable trade Thomas Tatar was 26 with 3 years under contract and 3 consecutive 20+ goal season fetched late 1st, a second, and a 3rd from Vegas and everyone called it an over payment

for another comparable, Marcus Johansson was 25 coming off a 24g 58p point season when Washington traded him to new jersey for a 2nd and a 3rd

Ryan Hartman was 22yrs old on pace for a 23g 45pt season when he was traded for a 1st and a 4th

There are 3 examples, (the closest probably being Marcus Johansson)

so why don't you show me where you're getting your value from?

26 is pretty far from 23 in that Tatar case. And I agree with you that it was an overpayment.

NSH needed depth badly for their playoff run and thus they overpaid.

Also you gotta note that both of these deals were deadline deals. It's more likely to pay more then since there might competition in assets.

As for that Johansson trade, WSH were pretty much forced to do that trade to get under the cap. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he due to become an UFA as well the season after that?

So pretty much none of the examples you provided work as good enough comparison for Labanc's value. All of them were older and they were sold in different situations...
