Thread created with purpose to show them gloaters ( being afraid of what TML has built in past years ) its possible, i hope you wont come out now with : " Marner will get 12M"

its 6 x 11M which is somewhere in the middle of short term and long term contract, to make it more juicy

Johnsson and Kapanen bridged at 1 x 2,7M ( Bjorkstrand or Faksa as comparables ) so we see if they are worth money they are claiming they are, playing with "average" C instead leetching on Matthews

For those jumping on train of how bad D looks, the perpetual wisdom for TML 2019/2020 Season :

Till Marleau contract on payroll, we will have to suck it for one more year.

the window to win a cup starts in season 2020/2021 to 2022/2023 when Tavares will still be in his prime ( 30-32 ) and Cap raises will allow TML to finally hunt for some top pair RHDs ( in addition to Rielly and possible Muzzin resign), with Sandin and Liljegren filling on third pair

Johnsson and Kapanen might not even be worth that. It's hard to really judge. They have no history. That kind of thing ends up in a buy high. You end up paying Sheary 3 mil per season like deal and then scratch your head hoping you can convince someone else to take them. The real problem is arbitration: eligible on Johnsson. Kapanen you can try to cut lower and he can't really do much. But Johnsson can go to arbitration and be a pain in the ass, because players usually win there.
But honestly I'd offer them both 2 million prove it deals.
As far as Marner, I do see him getting 11 or very close to it. The question is, does a guy who only scores 20 some goals every season deserve 11 million. But you are going to have to deal with his family. I don't know. The whole toronto organization seems to have issues with players and their family and "not feeling appreciated" crap. FIrst Nylander, now Marner. Have to wonder if it's a locker room thing. And if so Marner knows he only needs to hold out.

My point exactlly.

Johnssons arbitration....Danault ( MTL ) comes to mind

And as you said, they have no history to claim the $$ they do, so im rooting for the experiment with given 3rd Line.

Actually im giving Johnsson and Kapanen shortened Arvidsson contracts in 2020/2021, so 4 x 4,2M

if Johnsson will get 3 x 3M thru arbitration we save in total ( 1 x 2,7M + 2 x 4,2M < 3 x 3M )

as for 2M prove it, Johnsson already declined 2 x 2,1M and 4 x 2,6M.

See I wouldn't sign either one more than 1 or 2 years. If johnsson goes to arbitration it will be 1 year anyway. It might come back to bite if they play really well, but the odds are higher you just have a longer contract to move. Either way you get more cap room next year when Patrick retires. And Kapen will probably not get a boost by playing on the top lines. Johnsson is a bit trickier because he's clearly an NHL talent and honestly could be a top 6 player for Toronto next year as he might be better than Moore. The real issue is there isn't really an top 6 guy out of the 3 of them. They are all kind of middle 6 guys. But the rest of the line is so dangerous got to save money somewhere. But he has got to prove it's not a fluke. In some sense I think the Hyman deal is a good comparison for him.
But if he doesn't want to sign maybe they could package him with Bracco and get a better LW who is more of a potential top 6 LW. It's not like Bracco is going to play at the NHL with Toronto. He's too small to be a 3rd 4th line guy. And Marner and Nylander are the top 2.

Don't know why call folks who think Marner overpaid at 11m gloaters? Marner's value as nothing to do with how he fits into the Leafs cap, he has to paid to comparable NHL players ....and 11m is too high.
Holl playing big minutes? Pecan and Gauthier at 3 and 4 C. Yikes.

Im usually doing description in the first post....( Holl and Petan issues that you listed )

Petan tryout between Kapanen and Johnsson so we see if they can pack points with "average" C.
Gauthier was just fine as 4#C this year.....not for someone drafted in 1st round tho....
Also didnt specify trades for Brown and Kadri, so 3rd pair RHD can be brought in via those.....
As for Marner...youve read many of my threads yet, so you know we are on same page about those comparables, same as we are about overpayment of Matthews...

Gloaters : ppl on this side who overpay Marner to put TML into so called "Cap Hell" and offersheeting Johnsson and Kapanen cause TML shouldnt have a good team and wont/cant bring them all home

You can always play Johnnson and Kapanen on a line with Marleau. Marleau is in decline mode but full of experience. Checking line with Gauthier, Marchment, and Mikheyev.

Or that yes...its like known Marleau is claiming he doesnt want to play C, but at least that would bring him away from 4th line....

Bothered a bit by the fact ppl are neglecting Petan as a possible factor, so i went for a quick research about current generation WHL players :

PETAN.............................175 cm, 81 kg..................35 + 120 + 113 + 89
EBERLE...........................180 cm, 85 kg....................55 + 75 + 74 + 106
NUGENT-HOPKINS.......183 cm, 83 kg....................65 + 106
REINHART.......................185 cm, 87 kg...................62 + 85 + 105 + 65

I know theres an overall gameplay factor also, not just points, but guess what.....the later three are all part of "TOP 50 WHL players" ( http://whl.ca/top-50-whl-players )

Even his transition into AHL panned out well with 47 GP = 32 Points and 52 GP = 52 Points
