Description

EDM trade:

Lucic for Alzner -> in favor of EDM (they save 1.7M and 3 years)

Drouin >> Pool party (looking like a bust.. hoping to inspire him by putting him on a line with fellow finns.

Drouin >> Sekera (same salary but more term for Drouin - and you get that fast and talented player to play with McDavid. )

8 OA pick v.s 2nd round pick or potential first round pick - favor of MTL

adding Hudon and Rielly as complimentary gift

The idea:

Sekera fills a spot on the LHD for 2 years (enough time for Romanov to come in)

Lucic could be put in the minor, Alzner could actually play in the bottom 6 in EDM.

give poolparty a chance to rebound.

I honestly don’t think that will be that good of a trade for Montreal. Lucic and Sekeraj are 2 cap dump, we don’t know if Jp will ever be a full time Nhler and the first is good but Not the value of Drouin and a 2cnd. Maybe something like

The Oilers will need to pay someone to take Lucic and should likely be happy to give away Sekera, even if it means getting nothing for him.

Let's break this out:

Sekera = free
Lucic = swap of EDM #1 for MTL #2 (reasonable, esp. if it's the Columbus pick)
Puljujarvi = Reilly and Hudon.

That's all pretty reasonable.

One question: why would you bury Lucic instead of playing him as a 5th-liner? He's better than Deslaurier.

Maybe, but he played for BOS, so I rather have him in the AHL

I did know that, viewed it as part of the Sekera balance.

Sekera isn't an upgrade on anyone if he can't stay healthy(has played a grand total of 60 games the last 2 seasons) and Lucic is a fossil with a NMC. I don't think Pul and an 8th is worth taking on 11.5 of dead weight and losing a 2nd and Drouin in the process, even if you do get to dump Alzner(he's a great character guy for the young bloods in the AHL and a cheap buyout after one more season)

Devils probably accept in order to add some size to their roster. Why not just eat the salary and keep the pick though?

Same could be said about Weber... but people can come back from injury. Also, he is at 5M for 2 years - meaning his contract will be off the book when it will be time to sign to whole gang in 2021
