Devils decline that trade

The devils were a terrible defensively last season. I want to say the gave up 271 goals (6th worst in the nhl). Not saying they need nisk but he would certainly help. He plays on washingtons top d pairing. Also getting a solid prospect who was a top 10 baker award finalist and a solid bottom 6 guy isn’t terrible for a 2nd and a 4th. Idk njd cap situation but they defense sucks and could use a major upgrade. If devils “decline” I imagine it wouldn’t be hard to get this value from a different team

They could absolutely use a major upgrade on defense but they sure as hell ain't doing that by trading a very valuable asset in the 34th overall pick for a 32 year old Niskanen.

They'd rather just keep the 2nd and 4th round picks and sign 32 year old Anton Stralman in UFA to the same contract that remains on Niskanen's deal - 2 years, 5.75 million AAV.

You could trade a later 2nd round pick if needed and nisk is much better imo than Stralman. Stralman Numbers look great bc of how dominate Tampa was last year. Look how well he did in the playoffs.

Nisk at 32 is still a top pairing dman on a team that won a cup last season and won the metro this season. Let’s not use age to discredit talent

Colin Miller was a healthy scratch for some of the San Jose series, just because he's on the block doesn't mean he's a good player that everyone should be trading for. He had a weak performance. I think Washington is better off targeting a LD.

not a sane person in this universe would ever decline that trade from the devils perspective...pure unadulterated lunacy

Alexeyev and Fehevary too. Alexeyev is probably higher on the depth chart than Johansen at this point.
