I bet lots of people won't like this singing, but I think it's great. He's been a consistent player who can put the puck in the back of the net. Fair term and AAV. Good singing.

He is okay but this kinda confirms that eberle will leave and they are looking to run with their current team

Not a great contract, but not a terrible one either. They did overpay Nelson, but I still think he's a viable 2C.

For a guy that has had one 50 point season in is his career that's a bit much

My first thought was that's a lot, but looking at his last 3 years of production he's there in production with guys like Statsny, Galchenyuk and Henrique to name a few. He's an average #2C, but would be a great #3C on a deep team. Seems like a fair deal all around.

I think this is a totally fair deal. Under Trotz, his game at both ends grew considerably. No way he would have gotten anything less (dollars or term) on the open market.

It's better keeping the guy you know vs overpaying for Kevin Hayes

As an Isles fan, I dont think people who dont watch Isles games understand Nelson's growth both point wise and defensively. Nelson may have been overpaid by a figure of maybe 250k but the term is perfect and his value is immeasurable to the team. He has chemistry with everyone here and he gels on almost any line.

And Marchand makes $6.1 per year. Not every player is willing to take team friendly deals like that lol

That's at least at little overpaid
One season of 50 pts does not justify this deal.

All unhappy people that judge by number of points he produced, need to remember this is not Fantasy Hockey. There are other aspects to the player evaluation than just points.

Yes I have Nelson in my fantasy hockey league. Love the signing and term, very good player. Maybe a tad bit much per but not much.

Sure, good two-way player and his production isn't ass. But I don't know. If everything goes well, it could be just the right value, but even slight regression on either end might make this look really bad really fast.

Yes it's a good signing for the Islanders because they need all the scorers they can get BUT they overpaid. He's around 5 million tops in my book.

As many including myself have stated, the NHL isnt EANHL or Fantasy League, points arent everything and the value Brock has for us defensively and team chemistry wise is worth every penny of this deal.

it may not be a huge overpayment, but if you give out 6x6 (the term here is notable!), you really shouldn't cite "chemistry" as an argument. it's a lot of cap space for a middle 6 center who hit 50 points once.

if the term was 1-2 years less, one could argue this was an "okay" deal.

Wow this is one divided signing. He's a consistent 20 goal scorer and he's basically hit his prime right now. It's hard to judge the market on that. You can look at a player like Nylander who is about the same.
I think the real issue here is the length. If this goes bad, it's probably going to be in the tail end of it.
