How does a 20 man roster with no cap, solve anything? Nylander for Dumba gets turned down immediately by the Wild. Nylander for their first might be best offer the Leafs get for Nylander and hey, cap compliant. 6m to fill four positions.

You can add 1.5M to Marner's cap... I don't think he'll sign under 11M

Dubas will not offer anything close to 11. Its funny we talk about him being worth Matthews money(Surprise he is not), but when you look at his closest comparable, Patrick Kanes 2nd Contract, it was 11% = now 9.1M. "experts" online also say Brayden Point, who plays center, had more goals and 2 less points(92 vs 94) is somehow worth only 8.1M. Then you got a middle ground for Ratanen. Leafs media is blowing up his contract for fun. But Dubas has no good reason to overpay marner in contract #1 when he has no negotiating rights.

In my mind, Marner is a better player than Matthews. Right, he doesn't play center, but he plays wing so well, near to be the better winger in the league... So if I was Marner, why would I accept least money than Mattews??

Feelings and stats are different. He is flashy-er and it gives you feels in your gut though. He isnt a better player at 5v5. He doesnt play the most important position, Center. He doesnt score goals as well as others, which carries more weight as it is the objective of the game.

Also Kucherov, the best RW in the league just signed for 9.5Mil at got like 127 points.

Maybe we should trade Matthews, do you think we could get a 2nd for him?

Wild decline, they have no reason to trade Dumba.

Yes, the Leafs would get second for Matthews for sure.nod And also a first. But more important, there would be enough cap to retain the golden boy for those who think he is valuable.

Personally if one of the three latest rfa’s needs to go why not golden boy? Keep nylander. His contract will prove to be the best of the three and unlike marner... he can play centre. Clearly you keep Matthews. Franchise centre who can score goals with 4th liners on his wings.

Jamie, it's about the cap. Trade Nylander and the Leafs area golden cap wise Any other RFA means at least two trades, maybe three, and that's without taking any money back.
So I'm with you, if a Nylander isn't traded that's fine, but I think it makes it make more difficult to field a better team if two or three other players are traded. You think if if Nylander stays, the next biggest cap hit...Kadri has to be traded. Nylander at centre, might be the best thing for Nylander and whatever team he plays for. You think Nylander has going to best of the RFAs. We won't know for about eight years, but I don't know if he is going to be better than Kapanen...and value wise, considering his contract, Nylander might be the worse.
Anyway always enjoy our conversations. Watching the Marlie/Charlotte game now.
