*THIS POST IS FOR FUN. IM NOT AT ALL SAYING THIS WILL HAPPEN. IM NOT SAYING MY PLAYER VALUES ARE 100% ACCURATE AS IM NOT BOB MCKENZIE OR ANY OF THE TSN MEMBER LOL. I DO BELIVE THAT ALL THESE **COULD** BE MADE. DONT POOP ON MY PARADE BECAUSE I HAD AN IDEA POP INTO MY HEAD*
Now that we have that all cleared up, let’s begin...
NYR TRADE:
It has been known for some time now that NYR has been looking to move Shattenkirks contract. A big cap hit for a player that just isn’t what he used to be. On the same note, it sounds like Hamilton might get moved yet again, BIIIG SURPRISE. Dougie is younger, and has a lower cap hit, and he scores a ton from the back end. He can run a PP! I know Chytil is a HUGE part of the rebuild in NYR, but Hamilton is a better player and has more trade value than Shattenkirk imo therefore you add the 2nd and potato, potatoe. Maybe take on all of Shattenkirks salary to make it more equal. It’s essential a cap dump, right? That would put CAR over the cap limit though, but it sounds like they’re going to move/buyout Darling, so that would clear some space. Plus there’s the whole “not paying dman” stuff going on. I dunno.
COL TRADE:
You’ve just acquired a player to make 2/3 of a dominant young Czech line. You already have Necas. You just finagled Chytil from the Rangers. All you’re missing is one tiny little piece. Oh right! It’s Martin Kaut! Once again, he would not be an easy player to acquire, but with the right offer, you never know. Toss in Bean or McKeown, and even Darling. COL might want to roll out the 1A/1B similar to Varlamov/Grubauer. Eat a little salary and who knows what could happen. Martinook adds some good depth and slides into a bottom 6 role in COL. Don’t know much about Saarela tbh.
EDM TRADE:
I’m sure you see where I’m going with this after the Chytil, Kaut trades. I’m sure many of you remember the absolute SHOW Laine, Aho, and Puljujarvi put on a few years ago at the WJHC. Imagine that transferred to the NHL. Puljujarvi needs a fresh start, a kick in the butt, or some AHL development time, maybe all three. You get him for a relatively cheap price, EDM isn’t going to give him away for free after all, and you hope he can rekindle some of that junior magic with Aho. EDM loses a big piece of their potential future, but right now, I feel as though 2 futures and that tiny bit of cap space could be beneficial to them.
WPG: Do I really need to explain this one? Laine. Aho. Puljujarvi. Got it? Good. As for the rest of it... Ehlers had a down year, and isn’t playing up to his cap hit or potential. His name always seems to get brought up when the WPG “cap crunch” gets talked about. You flip him for Niederreiter, and then Laine evens out with Svechnikov and the 1st. WPG saves money, and stay just as good if not get better, AND they get a 1st rounder this year which they don’t have.
All resigned players were signed to salary based off of @EvolvingWild contract projections. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15E1qqh3OfHvvhbv_pICfKT7VR1jJEVhWQOyKviWLN54/htmlview#
I also did up a NYR, COL and WPG ACGM so you can see what those teams would look like after the trades. All with the name “CAR MOVES”
* I do feel that all of the trades favour Carolina, but like I said at the start, I’m not an expert. I feel that the values in all the trades are even, or close to it. Add a player or a pick, here and there sorta thing.
