What need does this solve for the Avs? Because I don't really see a need to part with our first rounder from last year, at all.

You could argue that Saarela has had much better offensive production than Kaut in the AHL (not to mention more experience too = maybe more ready to make the jump to the NHL).
Throwing in a 3rd and another 20 point bottom 6 F, heck, I would probably do this trade.

I see what you're saying, but this was the kid's first year on north american ice. Feel like you can't just give up on that after a year. He projects to be a half-decent middle-six guy and in a year's time, we might just want another skilled guy who can throw his body around. Once he's filled out a bit, that is. Saarela, while he has more offensive production, screams another Andrighetto guy to me playing bottom-6 minutes. Don't think he fits, and that's exactly what we saw with Ghetto this year.
