15m in goalies? Too much for Gardiner. Probably not enough cap to sign Domi and others next season because there are not big expiring contracts leaving.

Best starter in the league and the worst starter in the league, why not just sign a cheap backup and let Carey carry you to the playoffs like every other time

Blues don't want to move Blais, but they want to move Allen's deal for cap space. It's the same concept as the Habs acquiring Armia, they had to take on Mason's deal to do it. If STL wants to shed some salary in order to sign other players with expiring deals, they need to dump some money. This deal allows them to do it.

As for MTL taking on the contract, it gives them a decent backup that can play25+ games. Lets face it, Carey isn't made to play 55+ games. We need a goalie who can play 25-30 games. I'm not sure Lindgren can do that. Allen can.
