Not saying either team would want that, but the trade is certainly not a steal for the Leafs. Let's focus on the key elements: it's 3 years of Johnny Hockey against 6 years of a player with elite potential, younger, but with a cloud of uncertainty cast over his head, Nylander. Value is probably tilting in favour of the Leafs, but contract length and age have to account for something. The thing is, then you add Kadri on an excellent contract, who can play 2C, and has a high trading value. And then Johnsson, one of the top NHL rookies this year. That becomes lopsided in favour of Calgary.

Brodie and Zaitsev are more or less interchangeable. I prefer Brodie, but he's a one year rental, and Zaitsev will keep improving next year.

Johnny Hockey may have the best contract values in hockey and the only player with the same level of talent on the Leafs is Marner. Nylander, Kadri and Johnsson while dumping Zaits's cap hit and getting back a better player in Brodie and of course Johnny G would be a trade of historic proportions for the Leafs.

Leafs and flames fan here... Trade is bad for leafs and bad for flames cap. That is a decent 2nd line for Johnny hockey. Anyone who thinks this is even remotely fair is either blind or seriously undervaluing leafs players or overvaluing Calgary players.

The flames aren’t moving Johnny. They would love to move stone and Brodie.

Toronto will not move nylander.

Toronto fans amaze me how much they overvalue their forwards and dont relaize that until the defense is fixed .. by trading all those 'star" forwards.. they don't stand chance to beat Boston or Tampa
