No way the Leafs lose their depth and become the 2016-2019 Blackhawks at this stage of their window. Trade him for a package of picks, prospects, useful pieces (defenseman of some sort or another) and ice a deep, balanced team with enough elite, game-breaking talent in Matthews, Tavares, Nylander, and Rielly.

Ottawa makes the floor without Marleau.

And Marleau agrees to be traded to Ottawa because....

Trade for McCabe's rights and don't offer him a contract?? I think Buffalo agrees....

Just like Dubas sacrificed JVR, Bozak, Komarov and Martin to find the 11 million to sign Tavares, he'll sacrifice Gardiner, one of Kapanen, Johnsson or Nylander and maybe even Kadri or Zaitsev if he can find a buyer, to keep Marner happy. Which he should.

No thank you from the rangers.. Kravtsov has the potential to be a very special player, Skjei is a good top 4 option and a 2020 1st could potentially be a lottery pick in a draft highlighted by Lafreniere and Byfeld

He can't ice a contending team with Marner at 12-13% of the cap. You can have a team that's too top-heavy in hockey, you know.

Lots of weird stuff going on here....but most importantly, why does Marleau accept a trade to Ottawa? That just doesn't make any sense.

I didn't say I agree with Dubas' logic of paying 4 guys 40 million but having 4 superstar players is better than having 8 meh star players, you know like the Leafs had during the decade they kept missing the playoffs.

Is there a rule that if the Leafs trade Marner they're also required to trade Matthews, Tavares, and Nylander?

Marleau: no.
Dubas: We're going to put you in the press box for the first half of the season.
Marleau: No you're not, I've seen the cap projections, and I can still play.
Dubas: You'll be in a diminished role.
Marleau: Tell that to Babcock. I played 17 minutes in game 6 and who was on the ice in the final minutes of game 7 when we needed a goal? oh ya, me. Please don't call me anymore.

Pay 13 million on Marner, Bracco (Mihkeyev or Korshkov) and Rosen.
or pay 13 million on Gardiner, Nylander.

hmm...easy choice, Marner and the Marlie kids. anyday and everyday.
