Are you assuming that the Panthers sign both Bread and Bob?

I heard Elliott Friedman say on Sportsnet 590 The Fan that Mitch Marner turned down an 8 year 76 million dollar contract from the Maple Leafs. His father is looking for 11-12 million AAV from the club. Hearing this, Patrik Laine’s camp believe that he should get paid more than whatever Marner gets, because Laine is a much better goal scorer which means he brings more value to his team. What’d you think?

Means both teams are screwed without moving other assets

Every contract is too low, we probably can't take on Matheson's contract and resign Myers. Copp, Chiarot, and Tanev are all getting 2+ million and Connor gets more than 7 million. Laine gets around 6 million on a bridge.

How are they screwed? You really think any other team is going offer sheet them at 11 or 12m. That's the only leverage these RFAs have, unless they want to with hold their NHL services. Folks are this site think "What a player wants" has so much meaning. It doesn't.
Admitting Leafs, Jets, Tampa and probably a few other teams will have to move assets even if their RFAs sign fair contratcts.

Yes I think a team might be desperate enough to make an Offer Sheet, but even if they don’t, do you think fans want any of these players sitting out like Nylander did?

Laine has done nothing to prove that he is more than a power play specialist sniper. That has value in the NHL but if he is wanting to earn 8 figures, his 5 on 5 game has to be proven over a bridge contract.

I'm assuming that the Jets need a #2 C and FLA a #1 RHD. Perreault and Matheson are the equalizer.

In that case just Trocheck for Trouba straight up, no need to add pieces

It's pretty widely assumed that Laine, due to a poor season, will be looking at a bridge deal.... Though the valuation here is still short about $2.4 Million... He will not be getting Marner money, and I'm pretty sure he knows it.

A 50 point 6'3" #1 shutdown RHD typically carries more value than a 5'10" #2C who was on pace for 52 points before getting injured.

$8.5M defeats the purpose of a bridge deal. Kucherov got $4.8M

When Nylander signed November 30, the Leafs were on a 120 point pace. Can't speak for all fans, but maybe wise fans who have just like him sit. No that Leafs would have forced him to sit, Nylander was free to sign a professional hockey contract with thousands of teams throughout the world including the NHL. Marner has a choice to if the Leafs don't like his contract requests.....he can sign for the Leafs for a contract he doesn't like or sign a contract in a pro league for at least one fifth less than he would as a Leaf. There might be offer sheets presented ,by maybe fewer that Marner would actually sign. He suitors are actually a smaller number. Teams with cap, teams with the the draft picks compensation, team who actually to pay him more than Leafs want to, teams that Marner wants to commit too. Not a long list at all. The Leafs and all teams don't have to sign any contract they don't like.

I hear you, but all we hear is from the majority of fans is that Dubas can’t let him sit, and he also put himself in a bad stop because he is on the record stating he won’t trade Nylander and that he would match any offer made of Marner. I personally don’t care how it unfolds but it should be interesting to say the least, going to be hard for Dubas not to look bad one way or another.

Fans just by definition are FANatics....which at times leads to stupidly. Fans might think the Leafs can't let Marner sit, but in a cap world, they can't afford to overpay either. And the Leafs with their sold out arenas can afford to let him sit...what tickets won't be sold? Sorry, despite the rumour, Dubas never stated he wouldn't trade Nylander. I quote " As long as I am here, I don't INTENT to trade Nylander". While intend last December and the cap reality now might be two different things. And please don't be so naive to believe what a player, coach, and executive says at a press conference. It may or may not have meaning. Regarding Dubas, saying "he would match". Gee, what else would you expect him to say in front of a microphone?

Well the Leaf are 45% owned by Rogers and 45% by Bell. As telecom providers do these two giants have the best interests of their customers?

Not Kucherov's new contract that he rightfully earned, the bridge deal he signed.

I would say that the telecom providers Rogers and Bell being the biggest are probably the two most hated companies in Canada.

Lol I meant that 5.1 + 2.4 = 7.5.... not 8.5. Kucherov's deal was team friendly... I wouldn't assume Laine takes a deal like that. That would be great if he did, but I wouldn't assume that for a few reasons... Most notably, no State Tax in Florida... Which means a player gets to keep more of their earned salary. That makes an enormous difference, when we're talking in the millions.

I'd like to complete an Economic Impact Study on what the net result to Manitoba taxpayers would be if we could exempt professional athletes from Provincial taxes. Each round of playoffs and additional merchandise sales would easily offset the lost revenues directly paid by players currently.
