2020-21 fantasy roster UFA Signings

Created by: CD282
Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: May 28, 2019
Published: May 29, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Option: sign Hall instead of Kreider, the extra $3M cap hit would come from trading Lucic with $3M retained. Who would you rather have, Hall at $9M or Kreider at $6M? Keep in mind that the Hall option would require other assets out.

Trades
1.
EDM
  1. Burakovsky, André [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
** Summer 2019 trade **

I believe the two players have similar value so I'm showing the roster switch as one transaction for simplicity.
WSH
  1. Benning, Matthew [RFA Rights]
2.
EDM
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi [RFA Rights]
  2. 2020 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
** Summer 2019 trade **
3.
EDM
  1. 2020 7th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Not sure Buffalo is a fit, just moving the contract... Russell has 1 year left and is owed $2.5M, this isn't a bad deal for a dependable guy as long as you have the cap space. If the trade takes place after July 1st he will be owed just $1.5M for his final year.
4.
EDM
  1. 2020 3rd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
This trade is based on Sekera playing a full season and proving that he is still a top-4 guy. If he's a bottom-pairing guy then obviously the return changes.
5.
EDM
  1. 2020 3rd round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
This is based on Persson playing top-4 minutes in 2019-20, obviously the return for him will 100% depend on how he performs. This is a best-case scenario. If he can't make the team he simply won't be offered another contract, so removing him via trade is moot.

Pretty sure this roster will go deep in the playoffs. How deep depends on how the goaltending holds up.

This is true. If Starrett has another season in the AHL like his first, he'll be ready for 30 games in the NHL in 20-21. I'm counting on Koskinen to play at or above NHL average if given a lighter workload than Hitchcock gave him, maybe he's not capable of that though. Next year will give us a better read on him.

Also, I worry about Jones at 2RD, but between him and Bouchard I'm pretty sure they'll be able to cover that position.
