You just disgustingly overpaid for Marner. Try again

I would love to get him for around 8 or 8.5, but at that price, you may have to wait until the end of November to get that deal. We all saw how that worked with Nylander...

Besides, for every person thinking I have overpayed, there are ten saying he won't come for less than that...

If a team offer sheets Marner, it probably would be that amount possibly more. I also think Kapanen and Andreas Johnson would want a little bit more $, the issue though is almost $5M over the cap. I’m not sure but I think putting Horton on LTIR nullifies his $5.3M cap hit. And yeah Nylander held out and it totally ruined his season, best to “overpay” Marner by like $1M than to have him sit out close to half the season.

I agree: His camp thinks he deserves the same as Matthews, and regardless of anyone's opinion on the matter, he has outscored everyone on the Leafs (You could make the argument that if Matthews was healthy and available that he would have outscored Marner, however that does not hold much water: Players NEED to be available. "What ifs" do not play in a salary negotiation).

This is probably the best job I have seen someone do with trying to tackle the Leafs cap issues. In this scenario, they're still around $4.9 million over the cap, so they'll have to trade Kadri and/or find someone willing to take Zaitsev, and money cannot come back. Larsson would look great with them: Great job! smile

Doesn’t EDM have their own cap challenges? Can they take on an extra $4M cap?

With every 5 leaf fans who have a clue there are 20 that are stupid. Just part of loving this team you have to accept. There are exactly 0.0 facts why Marner should be making 9.5 mil or more ket alone 9 honestly

Half a season doesn't matter. They were fine without Nylander, who could fill in just fine with JT, they'd be fine without Marner too.

You're being awfully generous with your ratio.

Nah, just trade him and get on with it. After the Mylander saga surely the leafs have realized there isnt alot of benefit to allowing one player to hold the organization hostage.

Marner for a stud rhd as Mos partner, plus keeping Kap and Johnsson, plus cap space, plus removing a potentially problematic ego makes alot more sense to me than Marner at 11M or more..

Who could say for sure.. But if Marner ends up getting traded you can bet that a rhd is the targetted return.

There's been some recent discussion atound here on the merrits of a Marner for Dumba and Greenway.. with some saying Miny would need to add a 2nd and others saying that it would be Marner for Dumba straight up..

personally, I could see a whole lot of reasons on why a Marner for Dumba and Greenway trade would be a win for the leafs.

Horton on LTIR will give us 5.3 million in cap relief. That doesn't make the flames of Cap Hell any cooler...

Thank you. As mentioned above, Horton will not count against the cap while on LTIR. Also Zaitsev has requested a trade out of Toronto. There might be some hope for more money for Kapanen and Johnsson if they can offload Zaitsev.

They do, but getting a player to ride shotgun with McDavid would be an imperative need. That's like getting Nylander for 3 mill of that 9 or so they have. I keep hearing that they want Brown, so he must be figured into their plans.

I've looked at comparable players, and the minimum would be Pasternak at 6.67 mil, and the max should be 9.5 like Kucherov. I figure he is valued at 8 for next season. I really hope that the agent is starting higher than they expect in hopes at getting the best deal they can.

But again, how many teams could afford Marner at 11 mil, consider it a worthy investment and still have a stud RHD, Promising young forward and possibly a first rounder available for trade?

I think he has the argument for 9.5 if he signs for 8 years. But there are 10 other wingers better than him in the league right now or more

Then again, I don't think he'd accept 9.5 for 8 years...
