Trades with Tor NJ and Bos

Created by: MelonVK
Team: 2019-20 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: May 30, 2019
Published: May 30, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Obviously nothing says that anyone involved accepts these trades. Marleau might be hard, but if he feels like he has a better chance to win the cup he might just take it.

Marleau's money is later used to re-sign Hall and Josi. What happens with Granny depends on his performance, what happens to the cap etc, but 2 more mil will be off the books due to Smith retention. Nashville basically uses next years cap space as a way to get high end talent on their roster.

Who's mad their team lost a trade? Tell me how upsetting this is for you specifically down below!

If you're taking Marleau with no salary retention, I'd ask for either Johnson or Kapanen as well - maybe instead of the 2nd. Subban is worth more. Toronto may prefer Ellis too.

You probably need to add more to the Hall trade - like Jarnkrok or Sissons - and probably replace Turris with Granlund. There are probably a lot of offers better than Tolvanen, Turris, and a 1st out there.

All that said, Hall and Nylander on this team would be incredible.

I know Tolvanen had some struggles of late, but what he did last year in the KHL is almost unheard of at his age. I dabbled a bit with taking on Kapanen - maybe the best way to solve this is doing exactly that and adding him to the NJ-trade. I do sort of agree Subban has a higher value than the general perception, but I also think Nylander is way better than people think as well. It's a tough balance, and obviously one can add minor parts back and forth, but I think the general idea of doing something like this had potential

Would you do it with Kapanen included? Assuming you keep the 2nd rounder

Losing kapanen and nylander would hurt their forward depth pretty badly. Would be more likely to get a brown level player

TML doesnt/shouldnt care for picks thru 2019 and 2020, cause they are set for next five years regarding offence, with that said, TML dont need 2019 1st round and now the shocker, they dont even need 2020 1st round, cause if 2021 1st round is the earliest great prospect to draft, he will have three years to make it to team, 2022 1st will have two years to fill what will be depleted after "next five years" period etcetc. Same goes for the late rounds ( 2nd and 3rd )

Subban...i dont know...i see him as 2,5M overpayed with losing his gas and with NSH figuring that out, now they are trying to dump him. I bet TML should rather go for Ellis, Josi or Ekholm instead. I see you put Nylander on C, i wonder how would Kadri instead Nylander look like from your pov......ofc not for Subban

I get the lack of direct value of picks, but you have to consider that Nashville is also a team pushing for a cup, and to make this trade work both teams have to give up some assets they might not necessarily like to.

I just think any lack of production from Subban stems from playing heavy defensive minutes with Ekholm and the powerplay being absolute garbage. To me he's still a top-7 d in the league. I played Nylander at C because I see him and Granny as interchangable here, and because Granlund might leave depending on what money the FA's require next year. If he does Nylander at C would probably be the best option going forward, unless you can find cheap talent somehow. Something around Ellis and Nylander might work too, but I used Subban as a way to allow TML to send Marleau back - that doesn't work with Ellis/Nylander

I like a lot of what you've done here. I wonder if there is a way to get Nylander without Marleau, which would give us room to sign Duchene (around $8.5)(maybe trading Smith to Trotz on the Isle without retention or trading Watson).

Hall - Johansen - Arvidsson
Forsberg - Duchene - Nylander

That would be an unreal top 6 for at least the next 3 years, until the Forsberg extension likely changes some things. Obviously we'd probably have to part with Granlund as we wouldn't be able to afford raises for him, Hall, and Josi - but trading Granlund and getting Duchene + any picks/prospects we get for him would be a great investment.

Yeah I think extending Hall/Josi AND getting Nylander is hard to fit with Duchene. I think that's what makes taking on Marleau fine - that money needs to go into Hall/Josi anyways. An option would maybe be to trade Granlund for Duchene at the draft, with both signing extensions. Maybe adding Smith to that deal would make CBJ bite, and kill two birds with one stone. With that said, Smith is a good player on his own and I think it goes from unlikely to unrealistic at all with that

Just a thought...would Kadri and additional 2nd replace Nylander ?

You don't trade a player of Subban's talent level for one of Kadri's - in my opinion

It would depend on where Kapanen's Cap it fell. As mentioned by someone else, losing both Kap and Willy would be tough for the organization.
