I think it is funny that this would be proposed after O'Reilly had a career year instead of helping a team get to last place over all and announcing that he quit on the team (as their captain)

Really? What did Ottawa get for Hoffman? Boedker about the same performer as Berglund. That my friend was the going price to dump a player who was a locker room problem. O'Reilly said he as the captain of the team gave up. When the leader gives up the team follows. Hoffman was a locker room distraction not the team captain. Betterall was fortunate to get a 2nd for O'Reilly.

Yes they did, it really upset me to see both Thompson and Mittelstadt in Buffalo the entire season and Pilut called up for more than a couple of games.

Even your proposed trade is about what Betterall got for O'Reilly. Your proposal is for a player who as you said is nominated for awards on a team playing for the cup and not for a player who led his team to last place over all.
I really wish the sour Sabre fans would understand, that O'Reilly devalued himself last year to about the value of Hoffman, yet Betterall was able to get about the same as you suggest after O'Reilly had a career year.
