Description

Bought out Abdelkader's contract now, as it will be more expensive to buy it out later. In two years, it will have a cap hit of about $1.1M. Better to do it now, than wait.

Traded a couple of picks for Callahan and a prospect. With Abby gone, and several prospects not ready, we could use Callahan to fill a slot.

Traded Nielsen back to Islanders. Retained $2M. At $3.25M, he is good value. It's cheaper than buying him out.

I don’t foresee kadeykin making the roster ever. Has put up nothing numbers in the KHL and has now fallen wayyyyyyyyyyyyy behind on the depth chart (not to say he was ever high at all)

Just put him there to fill out a spot. What's important, is getting those other contracts done with, as we got some contracts coming up in Hronek, Cholowski, Bertuzzi, Mantha, and possibly also Kaski. We also got Rasmussen, Zadina and Veleno getting raises when their contract is up. And if we are going to get Trouba, we need to get the cap under control.

No need to jump the gun and buy Abby out yet. Plenty of cap space this year.
