TOR fans what do you think

Description
Let me break it down - Lucic is getting older and slower but on a team like Toronto where physicality is needed so badly he could be a real asset in the role of physical 4th liner who plays 8-11 minutes a game. Larsson would play on the first pair with Rielly allowing Rielly a more mobile partner who can help cover his mistakes. Larsson would also be a great mentor for Liljegren and Sandin. I don't think that Kapanen is enough for Larsson alone, so I added Brown. The Leafs have enough RW depth to cover this. I then added Zaitsev as a cap dump/somebody to help cover the right side. Feel like TOR says no due to the intense hatred fans have for Lucic around the league (not as bad as we all say) but had to ask

Pls dont dump Chiarellis mistakes on TML, we are dealing with Lous ones already and we have our own version of Chiarelli in the Office already....

The only way I see Lucic being traded is if he gets retained twice to a final destination. $6M-->$3M-->$1.5M. That's buriable on the 4th line.

If Kapanen would sign for $3.85M, why would Toronto opt for Lucic at $3M?

Edmonton fans make me lol.

Doesn't help the Leafs cap situation and it makes them worse on the ice.

Saw it suggested elsewhere that the best way to move Lucic would be a three way trade where the Oilers ate roughly $2M and another team eats about the same so the team that gets Lucic is only paying him about $2M which is about fair for what he brings at this point. Obviously this will cost the Oilers some picks/prospects as sweeteners to move Lucic but not as much as it would if they try to unload all of Lucic's contract to one team. Seriously if I was a GM I'd want something damn good if Holland wanted me to take Lucic for 4 seasons of his full cap hit.

For the Oilers to carry 4 years of roughly $2M of dead cap space is far better then what a buyout would be, they just need to find a couple trade partners, one of which who thinks they could use Lucic for 4 seasons at around $2M and another who's the middle man.

Yeah only way I see Lucic on some team's 4th line.
How often do 3-way trades happen? We all know the answer to that.

You can’t retain more then 50% of the contract total. Not 50% each.

I did not use any numbers so not sure why you asked me this but even so, Lucic will have to be traded multiple times with whatever salary retention for teams to even consider the possibility.

Funnily enough I found out today that this is in fact incorrect. Check out the Mark Streit trades, over 50% of his salary is retained as a whole.

My bad, was supposed to be a response to you and the comment you quoted. I’m not asking anything. I was just explaining that only 50% total of his 6 million salary can be retained. So the minimum a team will have to pay Lucic is 3 million $. No matter how many trades with retention.

I think Lucic could be fun on Tavares wing...if Hyman can score 15 (on a goalie) in that spot, Lucic should be good for at least a couple dozen.
The trade however, is a no go. Larsson for Zaitsev and Brown is close, Kapanen doesn't belong in the deal and if Lucic at half price is added, Zaitsev and Brown is the best you're gonna do.

And no one should ever trade for Reimer. Unless you're tanking.

He too

Lou ( main ones )

1) Signing Marleau into the years where "Big three" should get their first big contracts
2) overpaying Zaitsev by 1M which now backfires with Zaitsev wants to leave cause all the fuss about him ......2 x 3,5 would make no ppl cry now

He did some good scams also, i give him that

No sorry to say but, 11.5 going to JT put then in this place right now. Would have been no problem locking up the kids long term and getting D help. Nylander is a center.

Kadri is a capable 2C too and he's got one of the best value contracts in the league. If they don't sign Tavares they could've went about building the lineup a lot differently and would probably be better off for it, like you said, getting D help would've been a good place to use some of that $11.5M.

Grudgingly, I must confess I see more merit in your Lucic idea than the rest of my Toronto colleagues, but I think Edmonton would have to add something. Let me put it this way: if the Oilers added the #8 overall pick in this year's draft, I think almost all Maple Leaf fans would now approve of the deal; if you added Edmonton's first this year and Toronto's second this year, many Toronto fans would be okay with it; and if you added Edmonton's first this year and Toronto's first next year, I might not be the only one agreeing with it. Of course, I put a lot of stock in imagination. Nice try!

Tavares is generational talent, his 11M must be seen from SJS offering him 13M perspective. Stamkos went under his price, if he would be changing scenery, his contract would be same $$ as Tavares, not to mention if Crosby re-signing last year would land 14M at least.

Dubarelli screwed it with Nylander ( 600k overpayment, which is minimal ) and Matthews, where i will try to describe it with simple numbers ( he demanded 8 x 13M on top of two 60+ Seasons and Dubarelli caved )

8 x 11,634M or 5 x 9M

Without numbers above, Marner would settle with 7 x 8,5M Draisaitls money now....

So your right the mistake is signing JT. The core was in place. Why sign JT?

If he can't get everyone in under the cap and improve the team there may not make the playoffs next year. Florida , Montreal , Buffalo and Columbus should all be good teams next year. Have to think 3 of them make the playoffs

Cause you dont leave generational talents that want to play in TOR went under the radar. Brown, Zaitsev, Kadri, Johnsson and Kapanen are all expendables comparing to Tavares.
