Thank You Marleau

Created by: Matthews34
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 3, 2019
Published: Jun. 3, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Marleau easily could've just stayed in Toronto and been unwilling to waive his no move. Instead he takes one for the team and moves back out west, letting us create this great looking squad. Good guy.

He is moving there because his family is heading out west. But yeah, he is a team guy. Legend of the sport.

Again and again, why does Marleau waive his NMC (!) to go to a poor/rebuilding club?

What long time All Star will want to retire like that, When he holds all-the-cards?

(And its almost always a bad club in these Marleau salary dumps.)

Stop it.

(And the "he takes one for the team? What does he owe the team?)

Hey, I would've agreed with you that Marleau wouldn't waive. But all the reports say he's moving out west and wants to play for a team out there. So yeah, he will waive to be close to his family. Anaheim/LA/Arizona are the reported teams so far.

I would agree with you but he is 99% moving out. He is waiving NMC

I'll believe it when I see it.

He's got one year left, and I really doubt a perennial all-star wants to retire with the Arizona or LA franchises.

And I really cant see ARI, LA or ANA taking him on for that cap hit, even for free or a 2nd rounder, they have cap issues/old guys enough

No team is taking Zaitsev without a sweetener in the deal

Huge overpay for 1 year of spurgeon.
Johnsson already turned down that deal back at the deadline.
Zaitsev yields a slightly better return.
I like the other trades and the look of the team. although the bottom 6 fwd group is too weak (not your fault, I know)

From what im hearing there are at min 5 teams that want him and try to get his value as low as possible. There would be no sweetener. Maybe low value of return but no sweetener needed.

I would agree with you but all the clickbait told me. They really promised me just as long as I viewed their ads.
Notice how the story of him being traded has changed. Notice the destinations make no sense at all. Tell me, why would Colorado who is on the verge of making yearly cup runs take him?
Why would AZ who is on the bubble of being a playoff team take him?
Why would LA who only has roughly 11 million in cap space and several players to sign take him?
This is one of those lame arguments like Kessel wants to play in AZ because of the coach.
But hey, click away, someone is making money off it.

Sometimes. Not in this. None of those is owned by ESPN. ESPN is bs. TSN and sportsnet have the best insiders. If both sportsnet and TSN report Marleau wants to go to the west, he is heading west. Marleau is getting traded. Many people here were saying that he wont waive his NMC, that it is impossible. Once it was reported from various sources, all just continue to say its just a fake.. yeah, Marleau is gone. That deal wont be easy to get but it will eventually happen.

ESPN owns a share in TSN. So yup there you go.
Ching Ching...watch our show, we don't care what we say because we earned 400 million last year from advertising!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not hard to be a sports talk show person You just throw enough garbage up against a wall and hope some of it sticks and then claim you are "in the know"
just ignore the 90% of it that is totally wrong because 100% of it was made up to begin with.

It's also very intriguing as to the timing of these reports. Just weeks before Marner can talk with other teams suddenly the two players with the hardest to move contracts on the Leafs, the two players the Leafs WANT to move to free up space ask for trades out?? That's suspicious as hell. Sounds more like Toronto leaking information to try and scare teams off from making Offer Sheets to Marner... Look at it this way...

Marner holding firm to his demand of 11m per season, Leafs holding firm to their demand of 8-10m per season. Other teams seeing this play out and salivating at the thought of Marner getting to the re-sign negotiating window and being able to talk to other teams, so they can offer sheet him. Leafs panicking because they know they CAN'T match the offer sheets WITHOUT moving Marleau and Zaitsev... so suddenly Marleau, who's been adamant he wasn't having hs NMC, suddenly want to go back home?? And Zaitsev, the contract Toronto probably wants to move more, suddenly requests a trade making it look like he is unhappy in Toronto and thus that could be a reason for his lackluster play?? Come on, it's all BS.
