The pens don’t have the cap space for that though. Plus Subban and Letang on the same team. Who takes the diminished role? Cause neither would be ok with that.

Pens do have the cap space If you ship out contracts. Pens core cap structure is actually very good. As for Subban and letang, I think both could definitely excel. Crosby line has letang that constantly gets him the puck, Malkin would absolutely benefit with Subban on the ice.

if you have Subban and Letang down the right side you flip Schultz to one of the many teams that need a puck moving RHD

It won't be Subban. That's pretty clear at this point.
The Ekholm rumor has been going around for some time. It has half as much credibility as the Kadri Avery trade.

Subban will take it.

Nashville already runs a 2 1sts pairing type setup w/ Subban and Ekholm taking "2nd pairing" role.
