Not getting rid of Callahan's deal that easily. If Toronto has to pay a "premium" and take back money to move Marleau, why doesn't Tampa have to do the same for Callahan? It's the exact same situation.

Well Callahan's 5 years younger... But that's about it.

it's likely that the leafs are trying to get an asset back in the marleau trade , i.e trading one of their young players or 1st round pick with the marleau contract to get something worth their while.

Both players are bottom 6. Both have NMC. Both love it where they're playing now. Both make almost $6M for 1 more year. Both of their teams are in a cap problem....

You're right. Only thing is that Callahan is younger and he can be bought out for cheaper. But that still gets Tampa free of $5.8M of cap which won't come cheap.

highly doubt they do that. Their focus is on their own RFA's and the cap. Any other players that need to be added will be down later. They already apparently turned down Marleau and Bracco for Hjalmarsson with Arizona.

well hammer is a top 4 dman on a team friendly deal with an impressive resume, and arizona is pushing for the playoffs so they'll likely be buying so like i mentioned earlier they want something worth their while.

Try tbl 1st rd pick to take Callahan cap hit since its a late rd pick anyway..& we keep our pick..is more like it for that pretty heavy cap add ..and/or top D prospect

I think the easier route is taking Hossa's deal and another contract. It saves Arizona cap space and real money. I just posted something involving Arizona and Toronto being Yotes send Hossa, Oesterle and a 5th to Toronto for Marleau, Timashov and a 2nd. Saves Arizona $425K in cap space and $4.4M in real money. Plus the could flip Marleau to San Jose after with 50% retained cap hit and not pay him any money and save another $3M on the cap. Otherwise they're stuck paying the part of Hossa's deal that not insured and with them being a low budget team they need to save where they can
