Taking a flyer on a goalie for cap space

Description
Would prefer to have Marleau and Zaitsev traded but if not possible, Nylander is my cap hit fall guy.
Rangers fans seem to willing to trade Georgiev. Andersson is two years away from being a UFA. If Georgiev is NHL starter good,(he was good last year) I think it's a good trade for the Leafs. Nylander might wake and blossom but Leafs need cap now.
Heed, even 2.3 might be light .

What a waste of Nylander. You have a starting goalie and can sign a reasonable backup. Nylander only goes for a solid RD

Kapanen and Kadri go for Dmen. Nylander is staying unless is massive overpayment.

Agreed, I don't see Nylander being traded this year if at all on his contract. Kappy is likely gone first for a RD

3 days ago dubas says nylander will retire a leaf... today he trades him for a 2nd and a back up goalie lmao.

@palhal if you’re worried about the cap trade marner for a 2nd. Nylander will prove to be the better contract of the two.

So if Kapanen is traded first for a capable RHD as you suggest, that's about cap and talent equal. Leafs are still over the cap by about 6.75m when all their RFAs are signed. How to get rid of that excessive cap? I don't think trading multiple players and then trying to find multiple replacements is a viable solution. I've traded just two NHL regulars to be cap compliant. Admitting a traded Marleau with no cap return would. negate the need to trade Nylander. I'd even prefer Kadri and Zaitsev traded with no cap return instead of Nylander. Part of any trade for the Leafs is to trade big cap and getting little in return.

That has to be one of the hottest takes I have seen in a while. Assuming Marner signs fir 10.5, putting his point total for this season at 111,702 per point, this year going with Nylanders 6.9 hit and also assuming he gets back to 61 points then he is valuing 114,137 per point. Marner is also an elite penalty killer and pp specialists, the teams powerplay went to crap this year once Nylander returned. I really hope you are kidding when you say this.

Or we can assume that marner goes back to his 60 point totals for 11m....

You know what they say about when you assume something.

It’s a joke between palhal and I, but the better value contract may be nylander.

Oh, another guy who believes what a GM says to the press. Sorry that is a terrible premise to base on how a team is going to structure its team. Backup up goalie? Maybe. But he did play 33 games with better stats that starter (if that means anything). Gee, Andersson was a back up when the Leafs acquired him.

Absolutely moronic to think Nylander's contract will work out better

Your crystal ball is much clearer than mine, I concede. Although in my original post I did mean to say “may” prove to be the better contract and not “will”.

I think comparing the Andersen trade is apples and oranges. A late 1st and a late 2nd compared to moving a core piece is a bit different. Especially since leafs were acquiring him to be a starter and not a back up. You are absolutely right though. Dubas May be faced with having to trade Nylander, but I highly doubt that it is for a 2nd and a back up.

Do you really think he goes out of his way to tell the media he should retire as a leaf but in the back of his mind he’s thinking “unless I can get a 2nd for him”...

The thing i see in trading Nylander now is everybody here are pointing at his 27 points last Season, so he should bring back way beyond his actuall worth. GMs in League defenitelly dont see it this way but in case that would be the thing for them also, its the only reason why Nylander shouldnt be traded this Offseason but hold on him for another year more playing with Matthews and trade him later, after he will be 61 + 61 + 27 + 71.

Not to mention rumours about Zaitsev, Marleau and Kadri are clearing 15,2M for 2019/2020.

Same goes for Zaitsev, everybody are yelling how hes worthless, but the Coach of Russian National Team doesnt see it that way, with all the pool they have to take Ds out from.

Also, i think NYR are seeing Georgiev as future Goalie, Lundqvist is declining, sadly.....
