Dealing Seabs and utilizing the cap space

Created by: Kaners_hangover
Team: 2019-20 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 4, 2019
Published: Jun. 5, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If there is any chance that Tallon would take on Seabrook’s contract, Bowman needs to own up to his terrible initial decision, and give up a lot to get out from that albatross. Draft Turcotte and have him take over for Filppula as the 3C 2020-2021. Have Boqvist take Pysyk’s spot in 2020-2021. Use this cap space to greatly improve the team, and maximize Kane and Toews’ window. There is 32.8 M in cap space for next summer to extend Cat, Gus, Strome, Kahun, Kubalik, and maybe Crow on a discount. Be aggressive, Bowman.

I think he can but the cap hit is the same so it's virtually pointless. I'm not really sure though.

interesting. unless the hawks are getting a good asset like back, like a sandin or a johnsson/kapenen, they should stay away from this trade

The thought with taking on Marleau’s cap hit for a 1st round pick is because you are hoping the Hawks make the playoffs in which the CHI 2020 2nd rounder turns into the CHI 2020 1st in the Seabrook deal. Additionally, Marleau can be bought out for the last year of his deal, and this allows him the freedom to sign with LAK, SJ, or anywhere that he wants while CHI takes on the 6.25 cap hit for 2019-2020.

i checked, and there is no cap benefit for the hawks in buying out marleau. and one more thing that we're all forgettting. he has a nmc and ntc. if he doesnt want to go, he doesnt go

I assume the Panthers lost out on Panarin and Bobrovsky? That is the only way they can take on Seabs.

Well according the 35-plus contract buyout rules and CapFriendly’s buyout tool, the Hawks would pay the actual 6.25 salary over two years, but the cap hit would be 6.25 for 2019-2020 and nothing for 2020-2021 as you can see in the buyout history chart if you click on the long-term outlook tab. Obviously, Marleau can decide that he doesn’t want to leave TOR, and this is a moot point. This trade only happens with the Hawks buying him out and Marleau waiving his NMC which allows him to go anywhere he wants. Buying him out also allows the Hawks to have an open roster spot to sign Dzingel.

I assume that they miss on Bobrovsky but maybe sign Panarin for 8 years at 10.5. They take on about 4 M by switching out Pysyk for Seabrook which leaves them about 17.5 to sign Panarin and fill other holes. Clearly, I’m just doing anything and being hopeful to get rid of Seabrook’

Marleau wants to go to the west coast and will only waive his NTC/NMC go to west. He's moved his family back to San Jose.
As for Seabrook .. no contender is going to trade for him with his cap hit and he's not going to waive to go to a rebuilding squad or to a team that needs to hit the cap floor. He will be a Hawk for the next 65 years.
